U.S. $ Conversion Rate

I am a frequent guest at Hilton properties in Canada.

What I can't understand is the exchange rate that Hilton HHonors uses to convert my charges (in Canadian dollars) to U.S. $.

On a recent stay, I spent $122.00 CDN, which only converted to $60.00 U.S. This is only a 50% exchange rate!! Never before in history has the Cdn dollar been this low!!

On a previous stay, I spent $193.00 CDN, and was only given credit based on spending $86.00 U.S. (45%) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

I feel I am being ripped off -- at least being screwed on the exchange rates. At the very least, the conversion rate should be based on AT LEAST 60%. Never in history has the Cdn dollar dropped below this figure!

If someone at Hilton is reading this, please feel free to e-mail me and tell me what rate you are using to convert my stays in Canadian dollars to U.S. Dollars. Thanks!

Maybe they are using the rate for the room as opposed to the total bill with taxes, etc. That's how Hampton's post.

I agree with FlyByMike. You're paying a fairly hefty GST in the room rate - Hilton doesn't give you honors points for that part of your bill.

Was there any coorelation to what your account was charged (in US $) to the points credited to your Hilton account? If they used the same conversion factors, you got a great deal. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I had some trouble with exchange rate on a stay at the Conrad Singapore last year. I made a call to hhonors and walked thru the charges and exchange rate with them and they corrected the problem over the phone. No hassle at all. (other than than not having it done right in the first place.)

Exchange rate are changed on a daily base, it follows the rate from the currency markets.

In my opinion, I don't think you should complain too much.. When is the last time you stayed at a Hilton in the States for 60$ on a business trip? I'm telling you YOU DO HAVE GOOD DEAL!

YOU FEEL BEING RIPPED OFF!!! What about us canadians going down to the States with an exchange rate of about 1.6 (100$US = 160$CAN) Do you really think we are having a good deal?

I'd rather be in your position as far as exchange rate goes!

Good luck Globe!
Cheers from Canada!
