Airline Miles for Free Stays?

I redeemed Hilton points for a free stay at Doubletree and my profile shows me receiving a Southwest Rapid Rerwards credit for the stay.

I called the credit card company and they identified a Doubletree $50 charge and then a credit for the same amount.

Does a member get airline miles for a free stay, or did this occur because of the credit card charge?

The latter. I wonder if the miles will get yanked since the charge was reversed, or if they bother w/ that level of accounting for a lousy 250 miles..

It looks like sometimes you get points and for the incidentals on your folio on a reward stay. Other times you don't. It is sort of a crap shoot.
