Try the Homewood Suites downtown. Just off Michigan Ave. Usually excellent weekend rates.

I had a recent stay at the new Embassy Suites Lakefront (there are two ES downtown). The service was very good, they automatically upgraded me, my Embassy Touch awaited me and breakfast was good. I also found the location to be very convenient.

I just stayed at the ES at 600 N. State. I lived in Chicago most of my life and remember it being built about 10 years ago so it isn't that old either. I booked a stay using Quickbooks. (By the way, your rate using Quickbooks is the average of all of your nights if the rate is different each night). I made sure my Honors number was put in their system so I would get credit. It turns out there was some sort of Chicago Hilton bonus going on so I got a lot of extra points. They sent a Diamond box to my room right away. It is also was a pretty good property. The bartender makes good drinks at the manager's reception. It is clean and you are close to Michigan Ave. and convenient walking to the Loop.

Oddly enough they are either building or have just built a new Hilton property diagonally across the street. I have stayed at the original Conrad Hilton on South Michigan many times, but I never even knew this one existed. If anyone has a report about this property I would be interested.

If I go to Chicago for dining & shows esp. 2nd City Feb.15-17, I can get a Point Stretcher Room at Palmer House, Chicago Hilton & Towers, or Homewood. If I want 2xtree, I must wait until Sat.16. I'm very familiar with the River North area bars, Rush St., etc., but the luxury of the Palmer in the Loop sounds delicious esp. when free!
