On my way back from a stay at Hua Hin

Staff are even more incredible than they were last time (and speak better English if that matters). Their attention to past (and present customers) is unbelievable.

I am not a big spender but I could not believe the number of staff who remembered me from my last stay (many months ago) - and remembered my (feeble) attempts to learn Thai

If you are looking for a very friendly and different experience for Thailand (although as the city becomes more "cleaned up" it also becomes more touristy) this is really a nice place. All the rooms have balconies overlooking the ocean and the staff cannot be beat!

I look forward to returning.

So .. I called on Friday to check award stay availibility at the Hua Hin property. I was told be the very friendly CSR there was plenty of space but I would call back sincee I didn't have my CC on my person. I called back tonight to make my award stay and was told there was no avail.

Do you think the availibilty was booked over the weekend or maybe the CSR I got tonight provided incorrect info?

if at first you don't get what you want, call back and try again, if that does not work, call hotel directly.

I called back today. Still no avail - I was also told the hotel is sold out on 12/6 - but the Hilton website still shows availibility. I think I will e-mail the property. Anyone have an e-mail for the property manager?

I always spend my points at Hilton Hua Hin. They have recently renovated the hotel, and completely removed all the old Melia logo. New furtiture. My children like it a lot.

I am always upgraded (GOLD) even though I redeem award room. Breakfast also comes free. Also welcome drink in room, and fruit basket.

Watch out for jellyfish if you bath in the sea.

We recently returned from this hotel. We actually also stayed there when Sept 11 happened. I can honestly say this hotel and manager are one of the best we have encountered. After the jet crashed into the twin towers the next day we went to the Hilton Hua Hin to check in. The desk clerk asked us to have a seat as the manager had put a note into our reservation that he wanted to be called upon our arrival. He came to the couch we were sitting on and told us how sorry he was about what had happened to our country and wanted to make sure we were ok. After talking to us for at least 30 minutes he escorted us to our room. Mind you this was an award stay..(25k for 3 nts). He took us to a corner ocean view one bedroom suite. A wonderfull room. They gave us breakfast buffet coupons for each day. They brought fresh fruit and water each day..etc..etc.. Very gracious and caring people. I also want to mention that the weather is pretty hot is Sept/Oct. We were there in March and the weather was wonderfull. Also, on this stay also an award the upgraded us to the same room and same benefits on this stay also. They treat their golds very well. Have a great time.

I basically asked some of the same questions in the past two weeks (you might wish to check the past couple weeks) and got a couple responses. But, not many from anyone who has been there in the past couple months.

Nevertheless, I have booked a stay for early Sept. to get a break on points.

My general impression is that the hotel and particularly the staff are super. I sense that the beach may not be pristine (perhaps a little dirty).

You might wish to check out a couple travel guides at the library. Lonely Planet, or Frommers. They don't give the town the highest marks, but give a lot of information on day trips and so on. You can spend a day in Burma!!

I found this site helpful:

http://www.travel-huahin.com/index.html

I think if you don't set your expectations too high you won't be disappointed.

Stayed at the Hua Hin Hilton a couple of times. Since there has been a lot of discussion on the board, I will just hit a couple of points.

The beach is pretty poor quality. It tends to be dirty with trash and horse manure. The manure comes from the horses which are used to give tourists rides. The hotel itself is on the beach but does not have much beach in front of it. Instead people tend to hang about the large pool area and walk down to have a swim. The swimming is ok but few would call the water sparkling clean. The Sofitel, just next door, has a much bigger and nicer beach.

There tends to be a competition to get up early and grab one of the pool side chairs. The procedure followed by some of the European tourists is to get down to the pool by seven and stake their claim to their set of chairs. In turn these chairs will not be ‘released’ until the evening. Not my style, but as an early riser it was easy to play the game once I caught on.

The hotel is very nice and they treat Diamonds VERY well. On the two stays during peak season, I was given a corner room for a rate of around $90. In one case it was a one bedroom corner suite and in the other case it was a very large corner room with a gigantic bathroom. (I have stayed in hotel rooms which were smaller than the bathroom.) The suite was the corner of the hotel by the water and the large bedroom was the corner room closer to town. Both rooms had water views with the one on the water simply phenomenal. Breakfast, water, fruit, and welcome chocolates were all provided. Late checkout (4pm) was also allowed.

When I was there the Thai Navy was in town because a member of the royal family was staying in their residence in the town. At night, the navel vessels have stings of bright lights burning … not exactly stealthy.

The hotel is located right in the center of town which is a big advantage for food and shopping. Dinner is a treat … there are a couple restaurants with piers extending into the sea and they seem to be generally good. I am partial to the one closest to the hotel (they are all next to each other). Unfortunately, don’t remember the name but the entrance and insides are all painted white. Note the unusual opening hours (something like 11:35 am). Lunch can be had outside of the hotel for a few bucks .. .pizza, Thai food, and even a Burger King are within a short walk.

I have done the train from the city each time. It’s an adventure the first time, but the ride is just too long (about 4+ hours on the ‘sprinter’ … the local takes just 20 – 30 minutes more). As there is only one track running south, you end up waiting for one or another train to pass. The entertainment (if you like trains) and price can’t be beat. However, for repeat visitors, or those just wanting to get to Hua Hin, take a cab (negotiated to about 2000 baht).

Overall, a nice location more because its close to Bangkok than a premier beach resort. Those looking for better beach could consider Chai Am or something away from town. I have seen some nice reviews (but never been) to non-US chain locations. The Marriott, just down the beach, would be unlikely fit that bill.

How does the Hua Hin Hilton compare to the Marriott or Hyatt?

We are planning to go to Hua Hin when we take a trip to Thailand. I have points I can use to stay at either the Hilton, Marriott or Hyatt. I did a search and it appears that as HH Gold, I may get upgraded at the Hilton but there are some criticisms about the beach being dirty there. The Marriott and Hyatt are supposed to have nicer beaches. I can use Hyatt points to guarantee a suite, but the Hyatt is not walking distance to town as is the Hilton or Marriott. I'm not sure if I could get upgraded at the Marriott, as I am only Silver. Any comments from those who have stayed at the Hilton, especially if you have also stayed at either the Marriott or Hyatt to give a comparison?

We stayed at the Hilton Hua Hin in November. HHonors Gold. Upgrade to a slightly larger room with a semi-Gulf of Thailand view. Breakfast is a really extensive buffet and provided to Golds. Other than that, no special treatment.

Re:beach. ??What beach??. A tiny strip of dirty sand behind the pool next to a dirty harbor.

Personnally, I would not go to Hua Hin. There are many places in Thailand that are far superior. Hotels are not Hiltons however. J.W. Marriot Phuket is outstanding. Dusit Island Chiang Rai is quite pleasant. J.W. Marriot resort in Bangkok is excellent particularly for $40 on Priceline. In fairness, many on this board love the Conrad Bangkok, I cannot comment having never stayed there.

I agree. At least, don't worry about how far the town is from your hotel. You won't miss anything there.
