Mauritius, while beautiful, is a really really long way & you'll be wiped out after a big (I assume) wedding & then those flights - I'd pick something closer.

Honeymoon Upgrades?

My apologies if this has been dealt with before, but the search option is down (until June 1st?!)

My fiancee and I are planning our Hawaii honeymoon, and we're thinking of staying at the HHV. I need to know what is the cheapest "best room" I should be booking.

Does Hilton upgrade honeymooners (e.g. garden view to ocean view or regular room to Alii Tower)? Is this something I can ask for on the phone with reservations, or will they only upgrade (if at all) at check-in?

JDiver Mar 3, 2005 5:29 pm

IMO, too many data missing - prices can vary extensively, as can upgrade availability, dependikng on time of year due to property popularity. Most hotels try to give honeymooners a little more - but what that is can vary a lot given their prime directive is to sell the most rooms at the highest price.

If you have any Hilton status, that might also make a difference.

I'll let you know in two weeks. I booked a Rainbow Tower delux ocean view and noted that it was for a honeymoon stay in the comments. We're getting in next Monday and we'll see what happens...

I know it's not the least expensive route, but I'll be able to ask if we got anything extra for the honeymoon (over Diamond alone).

PS, yes it will be our actual honeymoon, not just a test...

On our honeymoon, we took in Conrad Brisbane and the Hiltons in Adelaide and Perth. We got treated very nicely at all three, though it's not clear whether the mention of 'honeymoon' did anything that 'diamond' didn't.

fromYXU Mar 11, 2005 9:15 am

we should try the "Honeymoon" line next stay, but maybe the four boys ib tow will tip them off... :p

Special occasions happen all the time I guess. Beside good faith how does HH keep track of these things. The way society abuse these things I suspect that these things will get little recognition over time... :(

I totally agree... but they do try..

My wife and I had a stay in Cancun for our vacation. We emailed the hotel and talked to the Rooms Manager, we were upgraded to a Jr Suite (on a VIP-Free Stay as a GOLD). They were very kind about it and agreeable. The Hilton in Cancun is a very nice property too... this gave us a our own Jaqcuzzi on the deck... :)

No Love at The HHV for us

Well, we checked in at the airport and we got a Delux Ocean Front facing Diamond Head which is exactly what I reserved and paid for. It's hard to grumble when you get what you pay for but...

I did ask for as high a floor as possible and they put us on 10. In my book, 10 is not a high floor in a 31 story building. I asked for a better room and they say we might get one later in the week, we'll see.

There was no personal greating or recognition of my status. The only thing with my name on it was a note slipped under the door to visit the HGVC for a sales presentation. I had to ask about the water (2 bottles per stay) but there was a note saying one pot of coffee per day was "on them."

More later...

Best Honeymoon Location???

I'm looking for places to go on my honeymoon in March 2006. I'm a diamond with 400,000+ points and would like to use them, but if we found a place we really like we wouldn't be opposed to staying there. Flying out of Houston we would prefer to keep the fly short and were thinking about the Caribbean, South America or Mexico. We have both been to Hawaii and thought we would travel some place we haven't been before. Just looking to relax on the beach/pool at a nice hotel. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

kedcr22 Jun 8, 2005 9:45 am

I recommend a week in Cancun followed by a week in Cabo San Lucas.

GoodTimes Jun 8, 2005 1:00 pm

Cabo San Lucas and Barbados.
Antigua is also very nice but there's no Hilton...
Seychelles is also beautiful...but far to travel, and no Hilton yet.

Cancun

The first place that came to my mind was Cancun! My husband and I were there for 11 days in February and we had an absolutely awesome time. We were very leary (he was) about going to Mexico, but we have been to Hawaii so often, we really wanted to try something different. Every Feb. for the last 6 or so years, we take a trip to Hawaii because of the state holidays, Valentine's Day and his birthday. Anyway, after reading various reviews, and since the flight was the same 5 hours we were used to, we went to Cancun.

I wrote a Trip Report on this place so you may want to search by my username...it was pretty involved and I have lots of pictures if you want me to send them to you.

I thought this place was VERY romantic. I have never seen a more private balcony, EVER! It was huge and there was a jacuzzi tub out there and we had a few baths in the moonlight and even one in the morning with our coffee and tea!

The beach is really nice and you can go into town so easily...to get a car, IMHO, is a waste because the bus stops (literally) outside the front of the Hilton!

We got his/her spa treatments in the same room....that was romantic too.

Next February, we are going to Cabo San Lucas...I am told it will pale in comparision to Cancun, but we got to try it!

If I can answer any questions, let me know.

I just realized... Cancun might not be the best spot in March for a honeymoon given the Spring Break madness.

kymbakitty Jun 8, 2005 3:44 pm

I forgot about that....

You know, I think he is right about that spring break thing. We were there from Feb 10 until Feb 20 and we must have heard a million times that our timing was perfect because NEXT week all he** breaks lose! We thought that was odd that spring break would be associated with Feb/March, but it is there!

Forgot about that....it was so calm when we were there!

Cabo!

The Hilton Resort in Los Cabos is magnificent. Gorgeous view, fabulous pool, great staff and food!

(that's a lot of superlatives for one reveiw)

Amy28 Jun 8, 2005 6:11 pm

My husband and I love the Hilton Waikola Village, but for our honeymoon, we went crazy and went to Africa for the safari using the hilton reward SAF8.

We coupled it with stops in Italy and Prague and we just LOVED it. I cannot recommend it enough -- very relaxing, very romantic and VERY much a "wow" factor when people ask where you are going :)

Know you said you did not want a long flight, but it's really not the bad.

Congrats on your marriage!

IRELAND CONRAD's

Congrats on your marriage!

Kind of along the same lines, I recommend the two Conrad's in Ireland. For 300,000 pts you can do a 6 night stay at each of the properties. Ireland was part of my honeymoon and I loved it...the only issue we had was when my wife took off the mirror of a parked car. My wife found driving on the left side of the road, with a stick shift, kind of tricky. Hertz was not happy, but the trip was memorable. :p

The Hilton Los Cabos looks great on the website. How close is it if we wanted to go someplace outside the resort? What else is there to do in the area?

Honeymoon Resort Recommendations

I'm looking to book my honeymoon trip and cannot decide on which HH property to select.

Here's an idea of our desired site:

Location in Asia Pacific or French Polyinesia
On a beautiful beach
Privacy easily assured
Luxury or upscale accomodations

Our plans are very low key. Other than spending LOTS of time in the room (wink, wink) we plan to lay on the beach, perhaps snorkel, sleep, spend more non-sleeping time in the room, lay on the beach, have a few romantic dinners perferably near the water, etc.

I'm leaning heavily towards either the Hilton Phuket or the Conrad in Bali. Anyone with experience at either please offer your opinion and/or send me a link to any trip reports on these resorts you've found.

Thanks.

I'm looking for a place for my honeymoon in that location as well. Any help would be appreciated.

The Maldives was going to be my honeymoon destination...looks great. But then we looked at the weather for September and it is the rainiest month of the year and decided to go elsewhere.

azepine00 Jun 30, 2005 1:31 pm

Hilton is actively building smth on Fiji. I assume this is a combination resort/timeshare. May be worth looking into that but I doubt they will open this year. I am looking forward to going back with AXON or GLON in hand. :)

elbidercni Jun 30, 2005 5:33 pm

I'd agree that French Polynesia is a great location, but sorry to say there are no Hilton-related properties there at this point in time. I read here that there's one in development, but it will be years out.

SanDiego1K Jun 30, 2005 6:12 pm

Here's a vote against the Conrad Bali. Rooms all face the pool. It is very child friendly. Thus, there is quite a bit of noise. The rooms don't have sofas, just an individual chair - and aren't that comfortable for down time. I'll be in Bali again in July - and i won't be at the Conrad.

There are lots of threads with reports both pro and con on this property. Do a search and see what you think given your own priorities.

I enjoyed the Hiton in Mauritius more. (This is an island off the coast of Africa.) Again, do a search. I know that Wudy15 spent his honeymoon there.

Very timely thread. I was looking into the Conrad for my honeymoon but will try for something else now. I was originally considering the Hilton Maldives, but they are not offering any awards in 2005.

JDiver Jun 30, 2005 6:38 pm

VERY OT, and I love Hilton - but go book the MS Paul Gauguin in French Polynesia and use your AA miles to go via Air Tahiti Nui Poerava Club (Business) or Poerava First - they fly from LAX, and start JFK service July 6.

See several islands, never have to unpack or take a tiny airplane with luggage limitations or pay for a US$45 breakfast. Dive, snorkel, more watersports form their deck - small personalized service. Windstar used to do this run, they're on hiatus for a while. PM me for more about as PF cruise - I don't want to steal bandwidth here.

Otherwise, it depends on how adventurous and your prefrences - beaches? Exotic destinations? Hard to recommend without knowing...we just stayed at the Athens and Istanbul Hiltons - very recommended!

MoritzK Jul 1, 2005 3:40 pm

I agree about the Hilton Mauritius. Very much recommended. Although Mauritius is entirely different than the Maldives - but beautiful as well.

Honeymoon at Hilton

I just realised when looking at some brochures for my next holiday that a lot of hotels do something special like give a bottle of wine for honeymooners. I stayed at Hilton on the Park for my wedding night and even though my wife and I turned up in wedding attire, nothing special was ever said or done.

Is this the norm at Hilton properties or have others had better experiences ?

Help! Absolute Nicest Hilton Resort for Honeymoon

I am a Diamond and am headed on my honeymoon and need some help. I'm not considering Hawaii. Besides the Maldives, what are the NICEST Hilton Resorts. I keep hearing that many are run down, etc. Thank you in advance!

go to Rome and then go back on your 25th anniversary you cant beat it anywhere :) CONGRATS :)

BiziBB Nov 3, 2005 2:04 am

It is probably the norm, but you may get lucky with a sympathetic person at checkin. Despite the Hilton policy re. internet bookings, I did get an excellent reception at the NY Hilton nearby Central Park, after being lucky enough to get someone at the front desk who listened to my speech and sent up a good bottle of red, as well as the upgrade to Exec Flr/Lounge. This was the exception, as we were not so lucky in Boston or SF, and found the service below the levels at Starwood properties we also stayed at in NY, Boston and the west coast.

As we married OS from my half of the family, we will be doing it again; what chance we we have of any kind of kindness at checkin at the Syd Hilton, late January when I think their tourism and business business may be at less than peak levels?

Thought about Mauritius? It's a fantastic property.

You can't deny that Rome is the greatest (see all the other threads - especially if you're Gold or Diamond), maybe in Combination with Sorrento.

When is your trip planned? Season matters in a resort... Although Vanessa does have a point about Mauritius - I think it's quite new.

Sharks Bay Hilton in Sharm El Sheikh. While not the glitziest, it is very nice. It's an all inclusive (diving not included), the people are exceptional, diving is world-class, and it's a beautiful hillside location. We loved it so much on our visit last year, we're going back again next month.
