We stayed NYE only at the old 50K rate. We originally booked a Queen Bed NYC view which was changed to 2 Double Beds (no specified view) the day before. Pointed this out upon arrival and was told there were no queen beds available although I did still have a NYC view (which means a higher floor). We had room 2008 which did have a partial view of TS including a little of the crowd.
At 6:00PM we went out to see the ball lit and raised and surprisingly were escorted into a pen directly outside the hotel. So we did get to see the ball and some fireworks when it reached the top.
Went back out at 11 and were directed around the corner to 47th street. Could still hear the entertainment, countdown etc. and you are closer to TS than you would have been since the streets are blocked off at 6th & 8th Avenues (although an open table restaurant reservation also gets you past the barricades).
All together a fun night, agree that the room was pretty worn. Staff was very friendly the whole night. Breakfast was ok.

The hotel exterior is still covered in scaffolding, as it has been for my last 3 visits.
The reception area on the 3rd floor is severely reduced in size thanks to rebuilding, with just one clerk on duty when we arrived last week. No HHonors line and a general line taking 10+ minutes to check in.
Each time they say the refurbishments are almost finished. Each time it seems they are wrong. I like this place with its large rooms (for NYC) and good breakfasts, but am getting a little tired of the inconvenience.

Seriously thinking of booking DTS for 8 nts for 1st NY visit from MEL Sep 15 to 23 - but price $431 for King Prem Suite has stunned me a bit - I spend way too much time floating around Asia so not accust to these rates. Any clues good folks? HH Dia if that helps.
BTW did you guys asking for DTS email get set? I did spot it in a couple of replies from DTS GM to reviews on TA.

Yes, that rate is actually pretty much dead on target for September in Manhattan. If you use corporate code 2635191 (Gold Medal Rate) you will probably get a little bit more of a discount that the rates you are currently looking at. I don't know how important it is for Cruiser Elite to stat all 9 nights at the same hotel because I know that rate can be reduced if you are willing to move around a bit. For example, you can get the Conrad for 330 that Thurs thru Tues (the last 5 days). The Conrad is my goto hotel in Manhattan and its very much worth the 330.
