We have booked a glon for cancun 3/31/04-4/6/04. I'm counting on spring break being pretty much over by that time and also being far enough away from the bulk of the spring breakers if any are there. Am I right? We also just made gold and are wondering what our chances of an upgrade would be for early April. A hot tub on our own balcony just sounds so awesome! Anyone get this kind of upgrade as a gold in Cancun?

The proximity of th Hilton to Cabo should weigh in here!
It's in the coridor directly between San Lucas and San Jose'. We found that terrific. Others may not as you need to get a rental car for the 10 mile trip into either town.
We found it terrific as the 2 cities are so different. San Lucas is the 24 hour party central important to spring breakers while San Jose is slower with better restuarants and cheaper pricing. Both are quality towns.
In Cancun it's hard to get away from the revalry...
Cabo hands down over Cancun.

I've been going to Cancun two to three times a year for the past 9 years, and have seen quite a few changes over that time.
The most annoying is the catering towards the lound spring breakers.
Although I never stay at the Hilton in Cancun, I know by the location that you should have few, if any, problems with the spring break animals.
BTW - The Captain's Cove restaurant is right down the street from the Hilton. Great place to eat.
Generally hotels south of Km.14 are more expensive(Ritz Carlton, Condessa, Hilton, Marriot, etc). As previously mentioned most wont book spring break tours.
The college kids generally stay in the cheaper hotels between km.3 and km.12. Obviously, these hotels jam as many kids in as possible to make a profit. I feel sorry for the unsuspecting first-timers who book a room in those places.
I personally like the Fiesta Americana Condessa. It's not too far from the city, but not too close to hear the loud music from the clubs. The Westin Regina being the farthest name brand hotel away from the city.
These hotels also have the prime beaches. Hotels near the clubs have beaches with large rocks embeded in them.
Generally I disagree. I've been to Cabo a number of times as well. However the Cancun area has more to do, especially if you're into more than boozing. Noone can claim that Cabo has better beaches.
If quiet is what you want there are more quaint accomodations in and around Playa del Carmen, or Puerto Morales.

To throw a change into the discussion, we are planning a wedding for next year for our daughter. She would like to get married in Nov. - early Dec. Is the weather consistently better in either Cabo or Cancun at that time of the year? Thanks.

WE were able to secure the following:
* Upgrade to JR SUITE (w/hot tub on balcony)
- Larger room (bedroom and sitting area)
- Corner-room facing the beach (PRIVACY)
* Free Breakfast daily (for both me and my wife)as GOLD VIP
It is a very nice property.. beautiful beach and lovely pools....
Recommend this location!

Cancun v Cabo in late December
Family of 5 (kids 15,14,12) looking for suggestions for use of GLON2 over December holiday break between these two locations. We have read prior posts but cannot find anything specific other than pros and cons of the properties during spring break.
Primary interests include good beach, good pools, golf, and tennis.

December 15 is when Mexican destinations transition from low to high season (November and early December are often called "Dici-hambre" by folks who work in resots...)
This means air fares, prices, etc. will be up and it will be much more crowded. November and early December are MUCH better times, if you can swing it.
As to which, Cancún or Cabo San Lucas / San José del Cabo, well, I recommend research and decision-making after, because this kind of decision is very subjective and dependent on people's likes and dislikes.
Cheers,

Cactuspete,
Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at the Cancun Hilton. My husband and I will be there 3/31/04 to 4/7/04 using a GLON & paid additional night. Would love to read a trip report if you have time to write one. Curious if you received any upgrade and what type of room you were in. We are HH gold and are hoping for an upgrade. Jr. suite with jaccuzi would be great but I think the hotel will be quite full with less chance of upgrade. How was the surf while you were there? I seem to be reading in lots of posts that the red flag goes up quite often. We are really looking forward to our first trip to Cancun and the Hilton sounds like a great place! Also, how was the spring break crowd? My husband and I are in our late 40's and are looking for a fun time but not a wild one. Thanks,
Boggie

Me & Mrs. Skyman will be staying at the Cancun Hilton in 7/04 using a GLONP2. I'm VIP Gold. Having never been to Cancun, I'm curious if anyone can tell me if the property is generally very full in July. Hoping for an upgrade and I'm just wondering what our chances are.

Me and MS. vatali are going to be there in July 04 as well. we are diamond though. I was wondering about the babysitting offered there. are they professional? should I be scared? We have never left the kiddo at the hotel before, and are kinda nervous. I think we are gonna shell out for our upgrade as it is our aniversary and teh kiddo's birthday present all in one.

Thanks CACTUSPETE but as my original post noted, we had read all the prior posts and the one you noted principally discusses the pros and cons of these two locations DURING SPRING BREAK---not when we envision making our choice.

I have no familiarity with Cabo. Please consider, though, that if he/she is so inclined, your 15-year-old will find some place in Cancun to serve him/her booze. Possibly also your 12- and 14-year-olds.
