Hilton Miami Airport Blue Lagoon {US-FL}
I have never stayed at this property, so was wondering if anyone has. I will be confirmed in a Towers floor room ($114, $89 for a reg. room), and was told I can then standby to upg to a Jr. Suite. I called the hotel directly, and she put me on some kind of a waitlist.
Has anyone ever been in one of these suites? Do they vary from hotel to hotel? And....this is a dumb question, but in the Executive Lounge, are the alcoholic drinks free? I know the hors d'oeuvres are, but didn't know about the drinks. In general how is this property? Fitness center, pool, staff, etc. Thank you in advance. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Russ |
I like the property. My last time there, I had a very large corner room that overlooked the airport. I liked watching the planes come and go and wondering what was going on with the unmarked 737 that was surrounded by police cars for about 30 minutes.
I'm not sure about the drinks as I didn't have time to have one. I usually find that drinks vary from property to property and I'm sure someone else knows better than I. The fitness room was very nice and if you have a car, it will very safe with the secure parking lot. There always seems to be a lot of meetings going on at this hotel and depending on the floor, the hallways can get loud late at night, that's why I prefer a corner room, less traffic. Have a good stay. |
Hi, Russ.
I stayed at that property last December for one night (mileage run). My room was a junior suite. The layout was nice, but the carpet and furniture had seen better days. I only used the lounge for breakfast so I can not answer about the alcohol. The pool area is nice, but the water temperature was very cool. They also had a hot tub. The hotel is across a small lake or bay from the airport, so don't expect too much relaxation by the pool. Although the rooms are soundproofed, jet noise can still be heard. I hope this helps. Jim |
Got upgraded to a junior suite in July. Had an outdoor balcony, very large bedroom, living room, large marble bathroom. I was only sorry I was only staying one night. No other property has upgraded me to anything as nice.

As a new Diamond I have been upgraded 3/3 even when I suggested that for a 8 hour stay - late arrival - early departure - it wasn't necessary. Good suites - the circular one is best - the view is good - lounge fine. You can have a long walk from the elevators however to some suites since they seem to be on the outside periphery.
Although my timing has only allowed one evening and two breakfasts - been upgraded on $89 rate and $119. We'll see around Christmas and New Year when I have two more reservations. Although not my thing, I believe the alcoholic drinks were on an honor system and not free - but not sure. HHonors check in desk is really an advantage since the property is a staging point for cruise passengers who form long lines as they arrive from everywhere at cheap rates. Front desk staff good. Good shuttle back and forward from airport. Works well for me as a layover - wish I could spend more time. [This message has been edited by Cambiste (edited 12-16-2000).] |
Russ,
I stayed 2 nites at that property this week, and had a junior suite--it was excellent. There was a small balcony overlooking the airport/lagoon, and it was spacious and comfortable. I arrived late at night, and found I was already checked in and upgraded (not requested!), even though I am a lowly Gold VIP (15 nights this past month though). Regarding the lounge, although I was on the 4th floor, I had a gold room key, which included concierge lounge access. It is a nice lounge, but I was only there for breakfast--can't answer the question about drinks. If you're interested, there is a popular salsa night club in the hotel, open Thurs-Sun. By the way I passed through ATL 3 times this week and asked for you at each club--I know you were working days, but if anyone said there was someone asking after you, it was me. Perhaps one day I might actually find you. I spoke with the bartender at A-17 club-Steve Tillman--I showed him the pictures of the Lockheed Constellation I rode on--he'll remember me. Happy Holidays and Regards Art at ISP |
Hilton MIA question
I've read all the threads I could find on Miami airport hotels and conclude the Hilton is preferred over the Embassy Suites. They've got good rates for my dates, but there is $23 difference for exec. level. Is the lounge open on weekends or am I wasting my 23 bucks? Better yet, is it easy to get an upgrade without paying the extra? (I should be Gold by then.)
|
Don't count on an upgrade at the MIA Airport Hilton on Blue Lagoon. During a Nov 2001 stay, they upgraded a 30-hour-old blue basicmember who was traveling with me and as a HHonors gold, I got a basic wheel-chair accessible room right next the elevator. (I'm not in a wheel chair and my HHnonor profile specifies not near the elevator)
Otherwise, the property has a very nice location as a 'base of operations' in South Flordia. The hotel lounge is a "very happening" Cuban dance bar. Hotel guests enjoy 'front of the line' privileges during the frequent weekend long entry lines. [This message has been edited by mpc1 (edited 03-01-2002).] |
Your Gold Card should give you lounge access if you don't mind taking the elevator. Drinks are served by honor bar. Therefore, you are probably wasting $23.
Save your money and spend it downstairs at Club Mystique like mpc1 suggests. Friday happy hours are popular with free sushi and champagne. Miami's best salsa dancers hang out Thursday and Sunday evenings. Grupo Niche, Gran Combo, Eddie Santiago, Puertorican Power and Frankie Negron will be playing next Saturday for Carnival. http://www.clubmystique.com/ |
Hilton Miami Airport Reviewed
I have no luck with Hilton. Upon check in
ask for quiet room. Given upgraded corner "suite" by active runway. Ask to be moved even to just regular room. Second given room next to elevator. At last given corner "suite" on quiet side of Hotel. Room I was told at check-in not available. Lounge is nothing. TV was not even working. Staff was bad. No personality just robots. Free shuttle to and from MIA. As I left Hotel I noted others in the area. See ya! |
Hilton Miami Airport - Nice Service!
Just wanted to write a quick blurb here to say that when we checked in to the hotel on Saturday, we learned that the Executive Lounge was under renovation and was closed. No complaints as we were upgraded to a beautiful corner suite with private balcony and got breakfast coupons for full American breakfast for everyone in our room. I really enjoy it when we receive Gold perks without asking. This was my second stay here this year. Last time the Exec. Lounge was open, and I had access but no suite. I was really surprised we got the nice upgrade since the hotel was sold out.

We were just there at the Miami Airport Hilton Friday night and had a similar experience! On check-in I mentioned to the clerk that I needed to switch from a king bed room to a room with two beds because "mi suegra" (my mother-in-law) joined us on vacation at the last minute. She said she'd do one better and give me a nice corner suite so we could have more room. Vouchers for full breakfast offered w/o prompting.
|
I'll also chime in my praises of the Miami Hilton. Our flights were cancelled last winter due to snow in MSP and DTW. I called them for a room, within 30 minutes I was checked in and upgraded to a corner suite. Very efficient and professional property (even w/o the upograde!!).

Recommendations about Hilton MIA?
Hey all, tried a search for reports about the Hilton Miami Airport, but no luck finding any trip reports, etc. I am considering booking here for next week, and I was wondering what a HH Gold could expect (lounge? executive rooms? both?). Any help would be great!
-CLG |
I stayed there once on a short overnight and don't remember much about the perks. But I normally stay at the ES MIA as it is nearby, has airport views and decent service, usually decent rates.
|
Stayed there about 1.5 months ago, on a weekend, and as a Gold they gave me access to the lounge on the 12th floor (I think?). Had a room one floor down. All in all I thought the hotel was very nice (especially compared to one in SAN I had stayed at the week before) - the pool/view of departing aircraft is pretty cool!

My Hotel of Choice at MIA
Although I am just a lowly Silver, I stay at this property when I don't need to be downtown at the Conrad, but for only one night at a time. I have received better than average service here compared to other MIA hotels but my overall experience is based on having a decent room and meal for a < 24 hour stay. I have occasionally been upgraded to a larger room but not quite sure why this occurs.

Best overall HH property near MIA airport is Hampton Inn - South on 57th ( Red road) newish property, free HS internet, secured parking lot and free shuttle to airport (10 mins at best) I always get an upgrade to a suite there.
Rates often in the $60 to $70 range. The Hilton Miami ( just around the corner from the HI and ES) charges for parking, the lounge doesnt open until 630AM and has a somewhat worn feel to it. mike |

If you don't need to be by the airport - I would suggest the Doubletree in coconut grove - i stay there all the time for business.

Hilton & the Hampton Inn & Suites Airport South
I want to split up a weekend in Miami.
I would like to know if there are any recent experiences with these two properties. |
I stayed at the Homewood Suites next to the Hilton MIA airport and i liked it a lot. Nice and new.

I like the Hamption Inn and Suites and it is just down the street from the Hilton and parking, internet and breakfast (a decent hot breakfast) is free. Hilton is decent/good choice if a pool and room service and restaurant is important for you and the service is definitely decent but parts of it is a little tired.

Hilton Miami Airport Trip Reports and Reviews
Hilton Miami Airport
5101 Blue Lagoon Drive, Miami, Florida, United States 33126 Tel: 1-305-262-1000 Fax: 1-305-267-0038 AAA Rating: <><><><>............... HHonors Category 4 (30,000 points / night) General Manager (ex-Cancún and New Orleans Riverside and Airport hotels): David T. Smith Stays: Thursday January 4 and Sunday January 7, 2007 http://www1.hilton.com/en_US/hi/hote...orida/index.do I made two bookings at this hotel for January 2007, a few days part (I had business in the Fort Lauderdale area and used this hotel for flight arrival and departure from MIA.) Deciding the price wasn’t prohibitive, I reserved Executive level rooms in both instances, and annotated my booking record to “please hold for possible late arrival” due to our projected early evening arrival. We arrived at Miami International early evening Thursday January 4 – I am loath to use this airport but sometimes it is necessary. Going to the Terminal A hotel phone banks revealed they were dead. Signage led us toward hotel shuttles and then ran out – asking personnel revealed “some hotel shuttles stop on the second level, some downstairs.” Helpful! Calling the hotel, I was told to wait on the second level on the inside lane by the airport terminal building, as the shuttles passed by every fifteen minutes. After forty-five minutes a hotel shuttle passed by on the outside of the two roadways and I had to flag it down. By the time we had passed Terminal G, we had every seat full and a number of standing passengers, with large bags filling the bag racks, next to the driver and blocking the only egress from the shuttle – a definite safety hazard. As well, a family was told there was no room, but another shuttle would be along “in fifteen minutes.” Arriving at the hotel finally at about 9:00 PM, I was checked in, the desk clerk handing me my card key and cover with a standard room on the fourth floor for the same price I had booked the Executive room ($165 plus taxes;) when I inquired about my Executive room, I was told they were “all sold out.” I stated this was not an upgrade request, this is what I had paid for, an idea he resisted – so I hauled out my paper copy of the booking. At this point the clerk became flustered and unable to decide what to do next, until supervisor came over and asked what the problem was – he assigned us corner suite # 1430; the clerk asked “really?” and the supervisor said “do it.” No apology from the clerk, of course, who seemed disappointed his supe told him to give us a suite. Amazing – a booked Diamond reservation, with a credit card deposit, annotated to indicate possible late arrival and – no room! The 13th and 14th floors are the Executive Level, and are accessed via the keycard. The suite itself was a corner suite, with nice views through windows that had not been cleaned in many moons of the airport and Miami itself (north and east.) The living room included a wine-colored sofa sectional with a white leather drum table, a large "D" shaped armchair in the corner by the window, a dining area with round dining room table and chairs for four, minibar, desk and LCD – the LCD is positioned in such a way there is no comfortable place to view it from, other than perhaps from the desk, at an angle! Décor included blue floor coverings in a brick pattern, dark blue sofa, highlights in wine red. There is a broad expanse of windows, including a curved section with nice views north and east (Airport and Miami) though very streaked and dirty. The bedroom was very spacious, so much so it seemed spare, with two armchairs, bureau, CRT television, an open clothes area with bathrobes and slippers, all leading into a large bath with oversize tub (no water jets.) The room was marred by scuff marks on the wall and some blood spots on the curtain I assume were from insects . The toilet made screeching noises, and the 10kt breeze caused wind howl in the loose window frame. An occasional cargo aircraft departing the southernmost runway caused considerable noise as well. In all, this would be a nice room for someone wanting a separate bedroom and interested in entertaining or carrying out business, if Hilton paid more attention to cleaning and some sound reduction. The next morning before leaving, we took breakfast in the 13th floor Executive Lounge, comprised of two rather disorganized rooms connected by a kitchen with island, which also holds three small tables. Breakfast was comprised of a goodly selection of cereals, fruits, yoghurt, “Danish” pastries, hard-boiled eggs, juices, coffee, etc. and was certainly filling enough. The biggest problem is this lounge gets crowded pretty quickly, and there is lots of cross-traffic with people passing from one room into another to find all the very spread out breakfast items. Sunday January 7 we checked in at about ~3:15-3:30 PM (check-in time is listed as 3:00 PM) and were told our Executive room (# 1305) was not ready yet; “please proceed to the Executive Lounge and wait – the room should be ready in about an hour, please contact us to determine if it is.” The lounge is unspectacular, consisting of two rooms with tables and chairs, plus a sofa or two, in a somewhat haphazard placement, connected by what appears to be a bar and fridge area with a few drum-shaped two-tops sandwiched in. The lounge fills up quite rapidly, and offers some soft drinks and water for free, light beers for a price, and hors d'oeuvres between 5 and 7 PM. Service is fair, with absences from the staff on occasion. Sidenote: a woman asked me if she could "borrow" pages from my newspaper, then became upset when I asked for a couple of sections back so I could read them - she had decided to work the crossword puzzle, and I was intruding. When we called at ~4:15 PM, we were told the room was ready and we could proceed - the keycard accessed it. Later, when we attempted to check the television menu, it would not work. Calling revealed the hotel system indicated we had not checked in yet. The room was spacious, done in warm tones of mustard, burnt umber and royal blues, darker wood tones. The bed was adorned with a matching set of shams, bolster and quilt in a similarly colored pattern. A desk by the wall-sized window was equipped with a leatherette-covered task chair, and an upholstered armchair was nearby. The usual wood cabinet with four very large drawers, television and minibar faced the bed. (Iirc there was a sliding door in the window that was inop.) Temperature control was pretty useless – the HVAC thermostat was set to 51F / 11C, but the room itself was not very cool at 72 / 22. The ice bucket set and tray held a large bottle of Zephyr Hills water at $4.50; no courtesy bottled water was provided. The clock-radio was the newer Hilton minitower. The bright bathroom included a Mr. Coffee set and the usual LaSource amenities, shower-tub combo with bowed shower curtain and one of the original plastic WaterPik showerheads, and a retractable clothesline. Plenty of HH collection towels were provided, though again, the toilet plumbing made noises and had a very squeaky lid. This west-oriented room was considerably quieter in our experience than the suite. Departing the next morning (with a 6:30 AM departure, I had been assured the shuttle departed every fifteen minutes,) we waited 25 minutes for the shuttle with a number of apparent cruise pax from the day before – many bags with cruise stickers, etc. When a taxi arrived an discharged three drunk guests, I asked how much the cabbie would charge us to MIA and we used the taxi to avoid further shuttle issues. This hotel is in desperate need of larger shuttles than the vans they use, and some semblance of timeliness. There are a fitness room, and an outside pool with a view; I used neither, nor did I use the $9.95 + tax for 24 hours WiFi. Self-parking is $7.00, valet parking $11.00. We also did not use the restaurants on site. Executive summary: This hotel looks good and is fairly clean, though it seemed the suite was not so clean – but the service aspect is severely lacking. In particular, airport transport is unreliable, and unsafe at times as well. If you try to board during a busy time at the E-F-G terminal area, you may be inconvenienced, or even left behind. The hotel seems to have a surfeit of cruise passengers, and elite HHonors members with bookings don’t seem to matter that much. I may use the nearby Homewood Suites the next time. |
I recently did the ES MIA airport and they had a lot of the same service issues. Overall I do not like MIA, because it is either boom or bust. Some days walk through the aiport in 5 minutes sometimes it takes an hour or so with the cruises .

Next time stay at the Hampton Inn - South just a stones throw from the Hilton. Newer property almost everytime I get a suite and the first early shuttle at 530 am and quite reliable.
Free internet, secure parking and access to HH Floors by keycard. Rates often half the Hilton plus if you drive you have to pay parking at the Hilton. Since I am usually out of there pretty early, while lounge at Hilton may not yet open you can always get danish, muffins and coffee at the Hampton no matter what time you are up. mike |
Thanks for the recommendation, Mike! ^

Just to add a comment, you can rent a car (Hertz) in the 'virtual' Hertz office of this hotel if you are a guest. The delivery will be managed by the Hertz office located at the MIA and you do not have to pay the airport car rental surcharge. I remember a normal nice Hilton, not bad not exceptional, I had to sleep there one night after an TATL flight before driving all the way to Key West to a wonderful Hilton that since then disappeared from the Hilton portfolio.

I've stayed at the Hilton MIA numerous times during Aug-Oct 2006 and was not impressed. The suites seemed to be much nicer than standard rooms. I never received an upgraded room as a HH Diamond, had to book the suites. Always did get access to the Exec Loungs but it had a severe ant problem and definately needed renovation.
I am now on my last few days in Miami now and have been flying here working for six months. I primarily stayed at: Hampton Inn & Suites Miami-West At Doral Blvd. 11600 Northwest 41st Street Miami, FL United States 33178 This property is set up like a Homewood Suites and has a Tiki Bar by the pool. I have been very impressed with the staff and property and it is my first choice in the MIA - Doral area. This property: Hampton Inn Miami-Airport West 3620 North West 79th Avenue Doral, FL United States 33166 I have considered my last resort Hampton Inn in the MIA area until this week. Now I will book a Mariott (but not a Mariott at MIA-real bad) instead of staying here. Seem to have a high turn over of front desk staff which is hit and miss on service quality. Older property, MIA shuttle is fair to poor in service. This property: Hampton Inn & Suites Miami-Airport South-Blue Lagoon 777 N. W. 57th Avenue Miami, FL United States 33126 was mentioned earlier in the post. Dave was not the manager when I stayed here. Stayed here once or twice. Seemed pretty decent but did not do much but sleep here. This Property: Homewood Suites by Hilton Miami-Airport/Blue Lagoon 5500 Blue Lagoon Drive Miami, FL United States 33126 Just down the street from the Hilton. Was very impressed with and would definately stay at again. |
I agree w Mike, For a 1 niter HI works fine. It also has the advantage of having a grocery store and restaurants within 500 ft.

Hilton Miami Airport - Towers Floor Townhouse?
I booked a stay at the Hilton Miami Airport using a corporate rate code. The rate code pulled up the following options, all for the same rate ($140/night, around half price of a standard room):
"1 KING BED DELUXE ALCOVE ROOM" "1 KING BED 1 BEDROOM SUITE" "1 KING BED TOWERS FLOOR TOWNHOUSE" The Deluxe Alcove and Suite both had detailed descriptions including sq ft and amenities. The Towers Townhouse had a very short and somewhat cryptic description that read: "BI-LEVEL RM-2 BATHS-FLOOR TO CEILING WINDOW HI SPEED 9.95/ DAY-SERENITY BED-LUX LINENS" I chose the Towers Townhouse as it sounds much larger (Bi-Level and 2 Baths) and is not even an option to book without the corporate rate code. That said, has anyone ever stayed in one of these Towers Townhouse rooms? Can someone offer a more detailed description and/or somewhere I can find some pictures? I'm very interested as I assumed the corporate rate code I was given would put me in a standard king room, but all three options sound like noticeable upgrades, w/ the Towers Townhouse sounding the most interesting. Thanks! |
