ES Manager Reception Definitive Thread
I will start by putting on my flame retardant suit...
OK, now that I am ready for flaming... I will throw this little topic out for discussion.
I am one of those who actually finds pretty good value in ES properties. I know that a lot of them are older and they are not at the top of the Hilton chain, but I think the amenities are generally worth paying a fare rate for when they are properly implemented.
My issue is that the Manager's receptions at many of the properties seem to be less than par and do not go along the chain's theme of "Evening Manager's Reception with complimentary beverages"... Some of the properties are on the.... let's just say it "CHEAP" side. While I recognize that their are state and local laws that dictacte alcohol distribution, their are some properites that just try to limit the number of drinks in an effort to be cheap, and in my opinion this practice is TACKY....
If the chain is going to put this amenity on the table, then it should enforce and enact it consistently.
I wanted to put a list of properites together based upon FT experience. Before I book a hotel, I want to know that the amenitity that I expect is what I am going to get... I do not want to be limited to two beers...
I have started the list and will update based upon your feed back. THis can be a reference tool and help other avoid properites that do not wish to play ball in the same league.

Well, I gave up booze in August. But back when I had an occassional drink:
Illinois:
EAST PEORIA: one drink per bar visit. You have two hours in which to visit the bar.
(This is an excellent property although the new water softener ruined it for me).

I think there are a few. I know when I stayed at the ES Anchorage a couple of years ago they had Mussels. Last year I was at the ES Detroit Airport and they had breadsticks with marinara and soup.
I just wish that all ES posted the beers which they offer online. I hate showing up at the manager's reception only to find Bud, Coors, etc. Uggg. The ES in the NW seem to have good beers on tap. ANC was the best with 5 or so on tap when I was there.

My two most frequented ES's:
ES Atlanta Galleria - awesome service, unlimited drink refills, Sam Adams, Yuengling, Miller Lite on tap. Typical munchies.
ES Alpharetta - Annoying bartender, unlimited drink refills, MGD on draft only. Other beers on tap but you aren't allowed to have those as part of the reception. Typical munchies.

I can't imagine evaluating a reception on whether I can get more than two beers, and frankly, I can't even remember most of the Managers' Receptions at most of the ES's I've been to. The only one that stands out at all is the South Lake Tahoe one (because Diamonds may go to the regular bar/restaurant and order -- it appears, although it's difficult to know since there is zero documentation of what Diamond status gets you by way of this "special" reception -- anything on the menu.)
I slightly remember the ES in ABQ as being nice.
All the rest I've stayed in leave no trace.
But for the most part, I try to avoid them because at the beginning they're packed with folks obsessively getting their free booze + thousands of children, and at the end the floors and tables usually look there was an explosion in a popcorn factory.

its been so long since I have been to an ES that I forget what the reception usually includes . . .
I was at the ES Sacramento, CA recently and it was
unlimited drinks (lousy bottled beer and no draft - wine was chardonnay or merlot - vodka, gin, whiskey plus basic mixers)
food was chex mix, tortilla chips and salsa, carrots and celery sticks with ranch dressing
you could also order hors d'ouevres from the restaurant and the regular bar was open if you wanted to buy other drinks besides the free selection

I can't imagine evaluating a reception on whether I can get more than two beers, and frankly, I can't even remember most of the Managers' Receptions at most of the ES's I've been to.

But for the most part, I try to avoid them because at the beginning they're packed with folks obsessively getting their free booze + thousands of children, and at the end the floors and tables usually look there was an explosion in a popcorn factory.
