Hilton Honors Safari Award

I remember seeing that Hilton Honors had a Kenya Safari award. Does anyone know if it is still available? If not, it would be great if they offered it.

It's been a few years since they had this. Agree it would be nice.

Funny, I was just wondering the other day what happened to the safari award and how nice it would be if they still had it. Oh well.

Definitely on our "bucket list." Would love to see this option.

This was an award that I saved for back in 2001 - 2002. If I recall, it was 250,000 points, and included a stay at the Salt Lick (?) Hilton. We ended up spending the points on the Big Island of Hawaii.

There was a thread (and I'm sure it's still here somewhere) about that award going away. I seem to remember, among other things, that the general opinion was that it was far from the best safari out there, and not even the best value for a safari (unless all you happened to have was HHonors points and nothing else to use them for, of course!).

I think I started out saving toward that too, but then the Scandic flat 10ik/night redemption came around just at a time when I started traveling to Scandinavia each summer, and I got a boatload of $200+ nights for 10k each and drained my account that way. I think that turned out to be a way better value than using way more points for a one-week safari would have been.

(Of course, Scandic is long gone too, and even the flat 10k/night disappeared before the chain itself disappeared from HHonors.)

Regarding that safari award: "Salt Lick" is what to search on. The was the name of the safari. The safari was not a Hilton safari, it was just a safari that Hilton happened to contract out with. The award included bookend stays at the Hilton in Nairobi, and those two nights were the only two nights at an actual hilton family proprety in the award.

That was the unusual thing about the award, most of the nights it involved were not Hilton family hotel nights...

Sadly when the Salt Lick Lodge left Hilton the safari award did, too.
