How to make the most out of a $150 night room

Just got back from two nights in San Antonio on biz.. Stayed at the Embassy Suites and selected the "Business Executive" rate. $150 which included an extra 1000 HHonors points.

Check out the folio for this stay and tell me if I could have done any better for my $150 a night stay (and yes, I checked out and checked back in - LOL!)

Base Points - 1500
VIP 50% bonus - 750
50% Base bonus - 750
Amex brand bonus - 500
Q3 double bonus - 1500
My Way bonus -ES - 1000
Biz Executive bonus - 1000

Not too shabby, eh? Throw in another 1000 points or so per night for the 6pts/dollar spent with the Amex HHonors Plat and you've got yourself a $150 - 8000 point stay per night.

I'll take that any day of the week.

Now, I'm waiting for one of you FT'ers to tell me what I missed.

Did you use a "Hilton" cc - if so shouldn't there be some more points for that?

Biz Executive bonus - 1000
May I ask what this is?
It's kinda tough for me to value HH points at more than 0.4 cent given that most nice hotels are 50 K.

So 8K would be $32 to me.

That's Just a tad over a 20% rebate.

So it seems about what the programs do.

Its all relative. Back when it was harder to earn HH points and before the devaluation , I use to vale at 1 cent.

Well gee, sourpuss.. I thought it was a pretty good bunch of points for a standard $150 room.

The Biz Executive bonus 1000 points was actually a special listed by the hotel when I was booking on line. Once in a great while hotels offer bonus points as part of their special rates. Portland, OR Hilton downtown had a 5k point bonus earlier this year for a 1-night stay. I wish I had been there more than 1 night, I would have hopped several nights in a row on that one.

Yeah, the Hilton Plat Amex.. That's the 500 Amex brand bonus I have listed.

But hey, it's not 50,000 points, so it doesn't mean squat in the grand scheme of things.

Ahhh.. good call. I use Avis 99% of the time and they have 500 or 750 point bonuses through the end of the year depending on length of rental. Just re-did all my upcoming rentals and used the proper code.

Thanks!

You are welcome. And if they have a rewards network restaurant on site, you can sometimes earn a few points . . . or use a restaurant.com gift cert but while you save money, you lose points.

For a Hilton stay, that's not bad. I'd still rather credit hotel stuff to Hyatt or PC, as the award/benefit ratio is usually much higher than Hilton.

If the two nights were back to back checking in and checking out and checking in should not make any difference, they will count it as one stay for the points and stay credit.

I think you did great.

What is the 50% VIP bonus? I noticed you had a 50% vip bonus and a 50% base bonus. I know one is for being diamond but what is the other one for?

sounds like he's using Hilton HHonors as his double dip - thus the 50% bonus

What about the points you'll get for the "$150 charge" on the card....?

His double dip is set to points + points which results in the 50% base bonus.

Ravenboy: Excellent job!
