Do you need some sort of corp. ID when using a CDP code?
I found a very useful CDP code for a great rate on car in Hawaii. Thank you Localjapguy. Now do I need to have a business card or some story for why I used that code. Can they pull it out from my reservation? The company has a generic enough sounding name. I don't want any unpleasant surprises on check in. The reservation has this language at the bottom:
WARNING MESSAGES Present Coupon To Return Representative umm coupon? what does that mean? I also used a PDC code does that require the coupon? Thanks in advance for the help. |
If you use a corporate code you aren't entitled to you could be in trouble... you might (or might not, most likely not - especially if you're a #1 gold member) be asked for id when you pickup the car. The CDP you use is available to the people doing your reservation, and will be on the reservation slip you're handed
However, if you have an accident this is when the trouble will (?may?) strike - in this scenario Hertz will, most likely, be in contact with the company of the CDP - especially if they need insurance details (as with some companies that self-insure) - for example my corporation has a "great" CDP because it self-insures (so really reduces the price). If this does happen then they'd find out you weren't entitled to the CDP and its likely you would be liable for the complete damage from the accident, plus a risk of being charged with driving without insurance. As such, I'd check at a minimum whether the CDP you are using is so good because it comes with no real insurance. Having said this, the above is the worst case scenario, and may be scaremongering, but, its a risk you have to accept. If you get 'caught' on trying to get the car they'll probably bump you up to rack rate and it might be more expensive than if you used a CDP that is publically available. Its a bit different than using corporate codes on hotels due to the accident risk / legal liability etc parts. Having said that, its your choice - with regards to the coupon... the language there seems to imply that the PC you've put in does have some form of coupon to be eligible? Difficult to say without knowing the PC, but, sometimes they do expect something to hand in (such as an internet printout / eligibility) - or they might just ask you casually where you saw the coupon (so make sure you can answer correctly on that front). |
Depending on the CDP, you may or may not be asked to present ID. However, as stated above, you will be in trouble if you get in an accident. The terms and conditions of the rental void any coverage if you obtained the rental by misrepresenting yourself and your insurance company can use that against you if you file a claim.

I used the CDP you're talking about. The guy who posted it said it's for friends/family of employees of that company and is good on personal travel. I booked with that CDP and called to have my Gold service added - asked the agent and she said as far as she knows, there is no ID/info needed at the counter, but I'm Gold so I didn't worry about it.
Turns out I caught a slightly earlier flight so my name wasn't on the board when I got there. Had to go to the counter three times for various reasons (see other thread) and the counter reps couldn't have been nicer. Absolutely no problem with that CDP. YMMV of course but according to what the poster of the CDP said, it's good for personal travel but you are assuming some risk. They let me choose from any car on the lot and I ended up with an Explorer even though I booked a C. Kudos to the folks at LIH! |
While I have never been asked for a coupon on return, I have seen that message. For example, if you are using the BJ's discount, they have PDF coupons on their website that use to say coupon must be presented or something like that. They no longer say that, they just list the PC and DCP code on the pdf (of course, they only have one side of the pdf online, so you can't see the important terms on reverse )
Because discounts are usually applied when the car is returned, which I have always found to be very confusing as you really don't know your rate until you are done with the rental, that was when you may have been asked for the coupon, but not once has anybody ever asked. They just hand the receipt saying something like "your discount was here". The only time I have ever been asked for a coupon (and I had it) was at an HLE location, as they couldn't figure out how the rate was so incredibly low. It was one of those freaky things you see here sometimes that you can get the rate down to a couple bucks a day if the stars were alinged right, etc. Personally, I don't use any corporate employee discount I am not entitled to for the reasons above, should something happen there could be other things that go wrong like insurance, etc. |
If you're trying to use the employee or the family discount then you'll probably be asked for ID. Those discounts are enormous and they are actively trying to crack down on people who are using them who are not entitled to them. I always checked ID's for both the family & employee CDP's.
My favorite person trying to use the family discount was a white woman who said she was a family member of someone I knew. The person I knew was black... |
Don't use what your not entitled or eligible to use, simple as that, it's called ethics.
