Rental Codes?
 

I'm looking at a one way rental in Germany for next spring, and hertz shows rental codes for the cars. For example, two of the cars I'm looking at:
CXMR vs ICMR. What do these codes mean? I've looked around on the forum and not found anything that explains them. I'd like to know how to decipher them and understand what they really mean.

Best way I've found to do this is on Hertz.com. Go to the location guide and then vehicle guide. They'll typically have several "example" vehicles listed for each category. As you scroll over the image, the URL will give you a hint if that specific compact is CXMR or the intermediate is ICMR. Still not a perfect solution, but at least a general idea.

Yea, that's where I got the examples I used above. The problem is, I have no idea what those mean, and they obviously mean something.

They're differientations between different types of cars in the same class. For example, looking at the FRA vehicle guide I see three compacts:
D (CDMR) Ford Focus or Similar
C (CCMR) Ford Fusion or Similar
M (CCAR) Mercedes A-Class or Similar

I'm assuming that MR = Manual, AR = Automatic, C=compact etc.

SIPP Codes
 

These are referred to as SIPP codes and are standard throughout the Travel Industry. Each position is a standard category with each letter referencing a specific type. You can do a search for 'SIPP Codes' or 'ACRISS' to find the definition of the different letters... The site I found had a chart but I think it's out-dated and didn't want to post it here.

First letter - size of vehicle (C=compact, F=fullsize,etc)
Second letter - type/or # of doors (things like 'All Terrain', '2 door', etc.
Third letter - Transmission
Fourth letter - Air-conditioning

I think a change was made recently to add additional categories in some of these areas (fuel, etc.)

These four letter codes are ACRISS codes, predominantly used by the travel industry to determine an international industry standard vehicle guide to define car groups ensuring uniformity.The matrix is made up of four categories. Each of the four characters in the vehicle code represents a definable characteristic of the vehicle. Travel Industry car codes are created by selecting one character of each column and combining them into a four-character car code. Still with me on this one??
Heres the basics one's:

CLASS
M Mini
E Economy
C Compact
I Intermediate
S Standard
F Full-Size
P Premium
S Sport
L Luxury
T Convertible
X Special


TYPE
B 2-Door
D 4-Door
C 2/4-Door Car
W Wagon/Estate
Van (passenger)

TRANSMISSION AIR COND.
A Automatic R Yes
M Manual N No

So a Ford Focus 4 door Manual with A/C would be: CDMR

It means you get the Gadgetmobile :D

Nah it actually means they can't confirm if it's a two-door or four-door car. Classic example would be:

Compact 2/4 Door Car - Chevrolet Cobalt or similar

Means you could get a Cobalt coupe or sedan.
