Hertz points or miles?
What do most people choose Hertz points or Airline miles? Any pro's and con's to either approach?
|
I like Hertz points. Indeed they are one of the reasons I keep my rentals going their way, even though I don't rent that often. The pros to me are that I think there is more value in them in general vs the token amount of airline miles you get. If you are interested in having free rental car days, I think it's a no-brainer. The cons are that they expire, no matter what your activity, after two years. You can request your award as a paper certificate to effectively gain a year, but still, if you're trying to save them up this is a pain.

I take the BD miles (1700 per rental). Use them for cash+miles redemptions in business/first and they're great value.
Free rental days don't do anything for me since I can get a low corporate rate even when cheap public rates aren't available. |

In the past I have taken the points but I don't rent as often as I used to. Recently Hertz upped the points required to redeem some rewards, so that diluted points. I may opt to choose miles in the future, depending upon which is the better return. When there are bonus miles promotions the miles probably work out better.
