One-Way In Florida
I know this topic has been covered here before...but I am in need of a one-way rental from FLL to TPA during the holidays and it seems that the one-way charge for ALL car carriers is ridiculous!
I'm a pretty steady Hertz guy and would like to use them...but stomaching $600 for a week of car rental is giving me fits. Any ideas? My dates are P/u in FLL on 12/25 and D/O in TPA on 01/01. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 |
Not preferable but did you try a one day one way rental followed by the balance of your trip. Use the one way piece as little as possible.

hertz doesn't charge a drop fee, instead they smack you with an extremely high daily rate for 1 ways..
I don't remember a high daily rate for one ways between MCO-TPA though.. so maybe not all florida one ways are billed like that. Your best bet would to keep the one way segment to a 24 hour period, and rent more than once. If you're spending a few days in FLL, then rent a car there, and return it to the airport. then pick up a 1 way, and drive it straight to a hertz airport or local edition in Tampa. edit: maybe not straight there... get your 24 hours worth on the car if possible!!! I'll bet even with the holiday time period that you're travelling that this will get your rate cut almost in half |
Rates are high during that period, it's not one-way fees, the major car rental agencies do not charge one-way fees within the State of Florida. I just priced a rental for pick-up and drop-off in FLL using my AAA CDP and it came out over $600 for the same dates, I bet your rate comes out the same whether you drop it off in FLL or TPA too.

I agree - it's the time of year, not the one-way thing. I rented MIA-RSW last month and paid no more than I would have paid to return to MIA.
