Hertz: Returning car for someone else
 

I'm currently carpooling with a co-worker and currently, my flight is on friday whereas his is thursday. I don't know what the policy is but will Hertz allow me to return the car on friday for him? or should i just have to find a cab?

They have never asked for ID or anything else when returning the car. They will just ask if you want to keep the charges on the same credit card and will then print a receipt.

However, you should be an authorized driver on the vehicle to make it legal to drive for that extra day incase you get pulled over, get into an accident, etc.

AFAIK, *most* corporate CDP's allow one person to rent a car and any of the coworkers/colleagues working for the same company to drive at any time without prior authorization.

My coworker rented a Navigator from MSP and I returned it. I was 24 at the time, but they just asked if I wanted it on the same CC, and I said yes. I got the receipt and walked off. For all the check in guy knew, I was my buddy (who has a good 10 years on me, if not more).

I wouldn't worry about it, but if you get in an accident or something, things could get hairy, especially if you're relying on any insurance from hertz.

I've never had Hertz check my identity, but I've had to show my original CC maybe once or twice in the last year.

If you're on a corporate contract, *most likely* your co-worker can drive the car without any issues.

My colleagues and I do this routinely. We have never had a problem. Most companies that contract with Hertz have a provision that anyone eligible for the corporation's rate can be an authorized driver - making returns easy.

I too had no problems. Just return the car and they give you a receipt showing how much it was charged to the credit card that was on file.

I have also never had issues with this - sometimes my wife returns the car while I wrestle the child and luggage to the curb.

Thank you all ~! I had no issues returning the car. The Hertz guy, just handed me a printed receipt, no questions asked and it is true, if we're both on the same corporate rate, anyone can return the card.

I thought the age restriction didn't apply to corporate rates.

I have had the agent checking in the car ask for my contract every once in a while. I generally have the contract packed away in my papers for expense reports. I just tell the Hertz agent that the contract is not handy and they just scan the bar code on the car and verify my name.

My business colleagues and I do this on a regular basis, where the individual who returns the car is different than the reservation. We always do keep the contract in the glove box, but aside from having that handy the returning individual simply pretends to be Mr. [renter name] and asks to charge to the card on file. We've probably done this at least 10 times in the past 2 years with never even a question.

Depends on the corporate contract, I believe.
