'Forcing' a Daily Rate Instead of 1 Week
Basically, I'm wondering if there's anyway to 'force' a reservation to use the daily rate rather than weekly with Hertz - specifically get 5 days of the daily rate instead of a 1 week rate?
Use case - next month I have a rental from OGG for 4 days 8 hours. Rate was $484 for a 1 week. While re-checking rates today I had a happy accident when AAA changed my search from a 10:30pm return to 10:30am and I realized the 4 day rate was less than half ($215) the weekly rate I was getting for my original reservation. For now I booked the $215 rate and plan on extending it for the extra 8 hours I need - this should just result in an extra 1 day charge, right? Called the reservation line and the overseas rep said she was unable to book what I was asking. I did some searching and couldn't find anything like this - very possible I'm not using the right terminology. If there's an existing thread that fits this, please let me know. |
How far are you staying from the rental location? Could you combine a one-day rental with a four-day rental, or vice versa, to get the daily rate for all five days?

Do you qualify (either through your employer or your alma mater) to use a corporate leisure rate? Some of those rates give a weekly rate that is five (or sometimes six) times the daily rate. |
What’s the current RQ for your reservation?
To force daily rate charge for 5/6 days instead of a weekly charge has to be done through specific RQ if I recall it right (either from oversea RQs or rate plans from CDP). Usually in this case a weekly rate is 7 days total instead of 5. |

Currently booked on the AAA rate. Amex Platinum CDP was also quoting a weekly rate for more than 4 days.
Optional Information Rate Code But I'm assuming your best bet in this case is just to return the car in the middle |

Not necessarily. When you pick up the vehicle, you might find that there is a maximum rental period of four days (or, perhaps four days, two hours) for your particular rate code, and that once you exceed that, the weekly rate will kick in.

My employer doesn't provide a CDP. I tried making a personal booking through my employers travel portal and the CDP was masked as the name of our travel booking company on Hertz's reservation. Searching for the 4 day 8 hour time period resulting in weekly rates over $500, unfortunately. |

Depends on what RQ this reservation actually is using, not the CDP (CDP especially the AMEX code would force some rate code though), extending the rental instead of book the length at the reservation might result in different ways to calculate the rate. You can find it in the confirmation email, bottom has a line called

If you are an alum of a U.S. college or university, have you checked to see whether your alma mater has a contract with Hertz (or Avis/Budget, National, etc.) that alumni are entitled to use for leisure travel? Both my undergraduate school and my graduate school have contracts with Hertz; for a five-day rental next month at OGG, both quote a weekly rate ($200+tax for a large sedan with the undergraduate rate code; $215+,tax with the graduate rate code). Hertz explicitly welcomes alumni of both institutions to use the respective rate codes for their personal travel.

Thats a good rate! I'll take another look but I didn't find anything for my undergrad first time around. I guess it's worth seeing if my SO has one for her undergrad as well.
