Reward cancellation resulting in less pts back to account? (changes May 2019)
Booked a reservation for end of Aug for 2days using reward - 1500pts
Today I cancelled it and I only got 1125 pts back! What is going on? |
Sounds like you're 5*.
If a reservation which was booked using points is cancelled more than 24 hours before the pickup time the following points will be forfeited: If a Gold member, 50% of the points used toward the booking will be forfeited; If a Five Star member, 25% of the points used toward the booking will be forfeited; If a President’s Circle member, all points will be returned to the members account |

Now it shows not - no warning or anything of that sort. I am sure when I made reservation for July trip, I was a President’s Circle member . What is " LH SENATOR - Preferred "? |

Redeeming Points new cancelation policy?
Recently, I was trying to get a quote of rental price for my trip to New Zealand. I noticed that they now penalize the reward bookings:
Cancel within 24 hours of booking – full points refund Cancel after 24 hours of booking up to pick-up time – Gold member 50% penalty, Five Star member 25% penalty, President’s Circle no penalty No show or cancel after pick-up time – no refund, all points forfeited I am not sure when this started. Is it fairly recent change? Around the time they devalued the points? |
Correct; it was part of the unannounced program change this past May. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/31136512-post35.html

New policy: Pay with Hertz points, cancel, lose points
If you book a Hertz rental with points, you can cancel the rental within 24 hours and have the points returned to your account. But if you cancel after that initial 24 hour period, depending on your status, you may be docked points. The policy states:
If a reservation which was booked with points is canceled within 24 hours of booking, all points will be returned to the members account. If a reservation which was booked using points is canceled more than 24 hours before the pickup time the following points will be forfeited: If a Gold member, 50% of the points used toward the booking will be forfeited; If a Five Star member, 25% of the points used toward the booking will be forfeited; If a President’s Circle member, all points will be returned to the members account. Will points be returned if award reservation cancelled?
If you reserve a car with Hertz Gold Rewards points and cancel the reservation a few days ahead of time, will Hertz points be re-credited to your account? If it is a problem then one might want to save the award for when there's no reasonable chance that plans will change.

It depends on what your status is with Hertz; here is the existing thread that answers your question: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hert...ay-2019-a.html
