Hertz Ireland website forcing CDW coverage

I'm trying to book a car in Ireland. For some reason, even though my Gold elections say to decline it, the website forces in the CDW coverage. There's no option to unselect it. When you click the ? describing it, it says that the coverage is optional.

Is this a bug in the website? What would be causing this?

Ireland's a special case, since a lot of credit card company CDW coverage excludes it. If you want to get the CDW waived, you'll need to provide (at the time of rental) a letter from your credit card company confirming that you're covered for Ireland, plus they charge €7/day as a fee anyway, and take a €5000 deposit on your credit card.

@cestmoi123 is correct. Many credit cards and insurance companies specifically exclude Ireland from coverage because the roads there can be flat out dangerous. I'd keep the CDW unless you can follow the steps above.

It was doing that for me too until I went into my profile and explicitly declined CDW for Europe as well (it was only declined for US rentals):

That said, I'd verify that your credit card actually does have CDW coverage in Ireland before opting out as others have mentioned.

For what it is worth... Citi AA Exec Card has Rental Car Insurance coverage that includes Ireland. Called the help desk and they emailed me a letter, showed it to the desk and they pretty much didnt care but still took the CDW off.

Check with your cards, likely one of them has coverage in Ireland.
