Exactly , I had a Nissan Rouge rental just like that

There was no aisle. I was given a choice of a Mazda (but the "key was pretty janky and it was hard to turn on) or what I drove, an electric blue Buick Encore with FL plates. Zero equipment - dirty cloth seats. 31k miles. It was my first PC rental. I normally stick to National but this time Hertz was way cheaper at $42 all in.

Picked up from the Las Vegas HLE at Resorts World Casino. Really good experience where they called me ahead of my reservation (PCAR) to ask if I wanted an Infiniti Q50 or a Challenger.

I took the Infiniti which had 38,000 miles and evidence of its previous owner. Not sure what the decal is.

Wow I wonder if Hertz bought this directly from someone? I heard that Enterprise was offering to buy cars off people on Craigslist/Facebook Marketplace like some dealers do. What surprises me is the random decal, the dealer logo, AND the tinted windows. Removal of all of those is standard practice before a dealership sells a car. Seems like Hertz bought this off of someone, slapped a plate on it, and then sent it out on rent.

To my knowledge to ensure mileage and vehicle condition meets the requirement, Hertz only buy retired leased oned

I have had random Hertz cars with aftermarket tint in Canada. Weird indeed.

Decal looks like the Ordinance insignia used by the US military as seen here.

2/1/22. Reserved midsize at Hardeeville HLE. New guy tried to give me a Versa, manager stopped him and gave me a new (2000 mile) Pacifica hybrid. Was asked a bunch of unusual questions (employer, destination, insurance carrier) they had never asked before. Claimed it was because they switched from a corporate to franchise office.

Surprisingly, I actually liked the car until it broke down 40 miles away from the nearest city. Called roadside assistance, they arranged a tow back to the Charleston airport branch (though it took almost two hours). Rental was ending tomorrow anyway, I just had customer service close the contract and my family picked me up.

According to the location directory, it seems Hertz re-franchised all the SC stores. Weird. But they do still allow one-ways, at normal prices.

Great experience!
Had the same experience twice in Germany (DUS and HAM). They know how to treat premium customers over there.

HLE Downtown DAL
PC
Reserved: F
Assigned/Rented: a vehicle!

(The back story - I arrived to find several other customers sitting around with no cars at all at the location. They put aside the one vehicle they actually had in stock to hold for me as a PC. I don't think this location gets many Hertz elites. The one and only vehicle left was a ginormous Ford Expedition Max. I tried to negotiate them down on price since I did not view having to drive that beast around for a week and 600+ miles as an upgrade as all. My realized fuel economy for the trip couldn't crack 20mpg. They didn't discount the rate further but they did give me a vehicle when everyone else was overbooked out of luck so that's something.)

I appreciated working SXM radio and a working nav system. Vehicle is loaded with features. But no one not in the business of ocean-borne freight needs so unwieldy a vessel.

So, Hertz, thank you for saving a vehicle for this PC. Though you should not have been grossly overbooked in the first place. But please realize that forcing me to take an SUV when I reserved and wanted a car is NOT an upgrade.

what else do you expect the HLE to do - if you didnít want the expedition you could just tell them I donít want it and give it to people wait in line and I bet many people would want it, if DAL means Dallas?

For the expedition itself - Iíve driven this car from hertz and can tell you itís not that hard to drive at all, plus itís feature loaded if in the most common case that you got a limited trim.

In no situation would this or any HLE lower the price for you when you are given an expedition and reserved an F. If Dollar was renting this thing out (fleet being mixed in many places where dollar/thrifty exists) they can easily charge a $50/day upgrade charge on this car and still a lot people would want it.

Technically the overbooking situation could be managed at the local level in a way by closing reservations on specific days, but itís very hard to predict how many reservations are actually needed when cancellation is free for almost everybody. Plus thereís no way to know how many cars you would have on a day, since extending/early return/one-way drop even stealing are not that uncommon.

Had you read the full post, I told you that the Expedition Max I received was loaded with features. I wasn't complaining about the spec sheet of the vehicle. I was (partially) complaining about getting a sub-20 mpg unwieldy behemoth when I reserved a car.

Hard to drive? I didn't say that it was "hard" to drive. But it certainly is not at all fun to drive, nor efficient to drive.

I mentioned that overall I was happy that the HLE saved the one and only vehicle on their lot for me. That was good customer service and appreciated.

But I think it's still fair to comment that forcing a customer to take a huge, inefficient (33% worse fuel economy than a typical modern sedan), unpleasant to drive vehicle isn't exactly a perfect outcome. 33% worse fuel economy becomes a real cost when driving a vehicle for a week and 600+ miles.

And again, rampant overbooking by Hertz generally and this HLE specifically isn't exactly a business practice you should be applauding.

So, yes, I'm happy they treated me pretty well as a PC. But the overbooking shouldn't have happened to that degree in the first place and I do not think it's unreasonable to discount a rate when a customer is given a vehicle that is way out of the reserved class and MUCH more expensive to operate.
