New Credit Card -- Do I need to present the new card the first time I use it?

I know that when one first sets up their Gold account, the first rental requires a stop at the counter to present your credit card.

My Gold account has a few thousand rentals over the years, and for the first time I have just added an additional card.

I selected this card for my next rental. Will I need to present the new card at the counter?

If so, I'm going to switch it back to the verified card for this rental.

I haven't been asked to do so in the past.

No, you should not need to stop. It's generally only the first rental when the account is initially opened. Subsequent adds/changes do not require a stop.

One suggestion, keep your old car in the system as well. Just in case there is some sort of "fine to use a new card, so long as there's a verified card we can fall back on" logic in the system.

Thanks for the replies. I'll roll with it.

It's good to be back in the game, travelling more, and hanging in the old haunts.

(Personal reference for the uninitiated. Some of us at FT go back longer than a decade. It's been a real community over the years, not just an anonymous Internet forum. I was travelling extensively back then, renting a car nearly full time, and used to moderate this forum. Life changed, I've been away from FT but kept in touch with a few people in person, and I love that I "know where to go" for good answers from the old gang.)

Indeed, it went off without a hitch. The other credit card was not in my name, which made me wonder if that would be a hitch, but there was no issue (unless the person who said they'd pay for my car files a dispute.... "Dad!!!").
