Why does my PC coupon not work
 

Hello, Hertz just sent me a free gold membership (waived the $50 because of elite status with AS) and gave me a couple of PC 177251 coupons for $10 off.

Anyhow when I went to remeem them for a rental SFO 2 days Dec 12-14th, the rate was no cheaper then a regular travelocity rate. In fact the rate with the coupon was $2 more.

(I believe I place the PC number in the correct spot on the Hertz reservation site, and I selected a compact 4 door car)

Any hints.

I've found that some promotion codes have specific rates associated with them. For example, when I use the "Third Day Free" promotion code, the rate for a weekend Lincoln LS goes from 58.99 to 70.

Hertz is notorious for marking up rates when discount coupons are involved. It happens much of the time and most of us look at the stated discount value of coupons with a bit of skepticism. That is not to say that the PC coupons never deliver, only that many of them deliver less than they seem to promise.

Hertz is always my first choice, however, the last 4 rentals i had to book with Avis or National.
This PC coupons never work well for me. Last time I wanted to book 3 days in DEN using a one day free coupon. The cheapest price with Hertz (including coupon) was $128 or so. Ended up with National for $88!
Got a nice, clean, almost new Mitsubishi Diamante...have Emerald... take any car under the canopy....
