Double Upgrade Question
 

I'm a new Hertz #1 Club member as a result of a cross promotion with Marriott.

Included in the promotional materials was a double upgrade coupon that I plan to use for a mid-June rental out of the Philly airport.

The coupon and the reservation confirmation included that familiar disclaimer "upgrades subject to availability."

Is it the experience of the Hertz veterans out there that upgrades are usually available?

As of my experience, I get an upgrade “based on availability” every second renting. If you do not get it and you would feel more comfortable in a bigger car and you have time to negotiate, pass by at the Gold desk counter.

I guess it depends on your renting location, I used a double upgrade coupon in LAS, i reserved for a compact and I got a nice toyota solara......

patron is right, if you don't like what you see, check with the gold desk, usually they will give you something else (based on availiability of course!)

I've had 100% success getting a car changed out when the madel I received just wouldn't work. A few years back at MSY, in the compact class, only the Mazda Protoge had a CD player. Time and again I would get stuck with something that was CD-less - which for me was a royal bummer since I was spending a lot of car time between customers. The Gold desk was always receptive to changing cars around, and even provided a Mustang on one occasion since all the other vehicles with CD were out.

Rule of thumb - it's not required that they switch you out, so ask nicely and be willing to work with the counter rep. They will usually be more than gracious in return.

Nice goes a long way. I booked for the wrong date last week and all the cars were gone when I showed up the counter. I was able to get the agent laughing about it, then a car magically appeared.

if you go into a big station you will have better luck. i rented a mustang convertable with a dug in dfw and got a very nice volvo with 400 miles on it. i am sure if you went to oak or ont you would be pressed to get the ug.
