Problems with the Hertz Website: Australia

I'm currently in Oz. I'm trying to rent a car when I return to the UK next week.

Usually, I'm quoted in AUD for the pay now option and GBP for the pay later option. There's no such option today. It's GBP - that's pay now, there's no pay later option. I'd rather pay now but in AUD.

My address, in my account, is set to Australia. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

I just did a dummy booking for UK and its quoting AUD for pay now and GBP for pay later

What location are you trying to book?

I'm trying to collect from Gatwick and return to Heathrow.

I've found a workaround, which is not to log in. It prices in AUD if I do it that way but that's not ideal. It means making a call or messing at the airport.

I tried making the booking (without logging in). I got this after I hit 'pay now':

Reservation on file. Please call Hertz to verify status. [DE356]
No confirmation email as yet. I wonder what's up today...

I arrived back in Europe yesterday and I gave Hertz a call regarding this verify status business.

Hertz were unable to locate any 'reservation on file'. I had to make a fresh reservation over the phone, which was a little more expensive than the AUD price. This was GBP.

The confirmation email arrived shortly afterwards. This quoted another price - much more expensive than what I was quoted over the phone. I called Hertz again. It seems that the difference in the two prices was the fee for a one way rental, which the agent hadn't mentioned during my original call. I cancelled the booking.

Back on to the internet and I finally managed to make a successful booking after three attempts.

Strangely, I did receive an email from Hertz during the week asking me to complete (I assume) my first unsuccessful booking. Unfortunately, the link in the email was broken, so I couldn't...

Having trouble tonight with the Aussie website.

In the past few weeks there is an annoying

Is this a Business or Leisure Trip?
We noticed you entered a CDP and we want to make sure you get the proper coverage. Please let us know what kind of trip you are taking.

Which is funny, as it's more to do with working out IF you are entitled to the insurance provided by your CDP.

That aside, I made a few bookings and had to click a T&C box which I didn't read as I thought it was just more warnings and rubbish.

Went back to modify a booking and worked out I had just made 4 x Prepaid rate bookings. Even though the main page said Pay Later, it was changed to Pay Now.

Cancelled all the bookings straight away, so shouldn't be any cost, but I wonder if Hertz will take all the $$ out overnight and then a week to refund!

Clearing all the Hertz cookies and restarting my browser fixed it for some rentals but it seems to be still happening for any vehicles which I need to select for a QUOTE ie Not displayed when first seeing the list of vehicles

This is for CBR airport returning to CBR airport

AndDee May 13, 2014 5:33 am

Okay happening at all major airports that I have tried in Australia

Any vehicle that is NOT listed as Pay Now or Pay Later but rather, Select for Quote, then turns into a Prepaid Rate with the Rate Code RQ: BEST always appearing with bookings.

Happens more when logged in, but the list of cars changes when logged in vs not logged in.

Got to love the Hertz website...............

I'll wait a few days and see if it fixes itself

I don't think that it will "fix" itself; the site has worked like that for years ime, just that for rentals in Australia there hasn't been much in the way of prepaid rates.

The only way I have found around it is to specify the rate code or change the membership preferences in account for what type of vehicle you want to rent in AU

AndDee May 14, 2014 1:26 am

Well I sent an email and we shall see what happens!

You are correct playing around with vehicle choices makes a difference

A total PITA, but at least the rates are far cheaper than any competitors...

I noticed that too. Annoying.

Anyway, to update - arrived at Gatwick on Monday. It turns out that were three reservations for me in the system! Agent asked why I'd booked three...

I explained that the first reservation must have been the initial booking that wouldn't complete and asked me to call Hertz to verify my status. The second was a cancelled booking (the one that I'd made over the phone) and the third was probably the final one that I made when everything seemed to go through as normal.

I checked my credit card today and I'd been charged for all three reservations. Called Hertz UK. The second booking had been refunded but it hadn't hit my account just yet. There was nothing that they could do about the first reservation as this was Hertz Australia. They gave me the telephone number of Customer Services and told me to call Australia. I had no reference regarding this booking. I never received a confirmation email, however, the agent provided those details today.

I've set the alarm for 2:00 am.

You can always call at around 07:30 if in UK, no need to get up at 02:00 to call Hertz Australia
