Compensation for No Car Availability?
I made a reservation Friday night 4/4 as a President's Circle member for Monday night. When I arrived at the airport location on Monday, I was told that there were no cars available and all the other rental companies were sold out. Apparently there was a big convention nearby and the GM recall also took away some cars.
I was offered a cab ride to my destination (40 minutes away) and the fare for the cab would be taken off my next Hertz rental. All other nearby locations were sold out as well, so now I'm stuck with the inconvenience of using hotel shuttles. Is there generally more compensation given for this sort of situation besides what I mentioned above? I was not happy to see that the car availability guarantee is not actually a guarantee. :td: |
It's really something you need to negotiate with the station manager. There is no hard policy on this. Generally, if you don't speak up, you'll get nothing. These days your worth to Hertz as customer certainly will be a factor. Since PC only takes 20 rentals now, it's not that big of a deal. A cab ride might be all you get.
I once rented from IAH to DFW and the car was stalling out between the two at night. I made it to my DFW hotel and returned the car the next morning. I asked to speak with the station manger since I was not happy about the situation. The station manager asked me what I wanted when he called the IAH station manager. I thought 50% off my rental was a good middle point and they both agreed. The DFW station manager also gave me a $100 Hertz gift certificate which was a goodwill gesture that I wasn't expecting. |
