Need To Use AAA CDP To Be Eligible For Free Additional Driver?

Hi, could someone tell me if I need to use the AAA CDP in order to be eligible for the fee free additional driver benefit (the additional driver, my dad, has a AAA card as well)?
Thanks!

Yes. AAA benefits are tied to the AAA CDP.

See: http://www.aaa.com/AAA/common/travel...rBenefits.html

"To receive discounts and benefits, AAA Members must provide proof of membership at time of rental by presenting one of the following: valid AAA Membership card; Hertz AAA CDP ID card; AAA Visa or AAA MasterCard. AAA Discount Code (CDP #) must appear on rental agreement to receive discounts and benefits."

Does the AMEX Plat CDP offer a fee free additional driver as well?

Does not appear to be listed anymore as a benefit. It was last year. https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/hertz...latinum_GB.jsp

FYI That link is for the UK.

I called AMEX US Plat Desk, they ended up calling Hertz, and I was told that if I registered for Hertz' Five Star program via AMEX (which I have) - an "additional immediate family member" could be added at no additional charge. So I assume this is different from "Free Additional Driver" - but in my case, immediate family is all I need.

I have never heard of the term "additional immediate family member" in the car rental industry. It would also be a change in the AMEX Platinum/Hertz program from last year which offered a free additional driver, period.

Indeed I found it strange… at least for me on this trip, it solves my problem, wish there was actually some decent, clear and concise information on the AMEX or Hertz on these benefits in one US-based site.

If you have Gold, which I believe you can get for free just by signing up online, your spouse/domestic partner is automatically an authorized driver without needing to do the additional authorization or pay charges. At least that's how I read the terms and conditions, which took some digging to find.
