Is Five Star good for anything?

Rarely use Hertz, but National was out of cars at CAK.

Reserved FCAR for one day on Hertz. Am still Five Star.

Got offered a Ford Fusion (not terrible), but no offers of anything else, not even an upsell when I asked.

I rent enough to make PC on Hertz and keep ECEE - but should I expect anything special as 5*?

The upgrade for 5* is not guaranteed. I'm also a 5* member, I don't get any upgrades for my last 3 rentals.

Nope. Sorry.

Since I became 5*, I've been upgraded only twice. It is totally worthless. For me, I have much better results when I see a Hertz agent. Lately, I've found the Hertz Gold area to be totally disappointing as well.

Try doing a search "5 star worth".
This question is asked ad nauseum.
And the answer is always the same: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hertz...l-5-worth.html

Perhaps the question I should be asking is "Is PC worth it?"

I do around 400 rental days a year, so qualifying isn't a problem.

Are you aware there are only 365, sometimes 366, days in any given year?

I am. I tend to end up in situations where I have multiple rental agreements open at the same time.

In 3 or 4 years as 5* I have only rarely gotten upgraded beyond F, and I'm not sure if I even booked F those times when I did. I drove a Camaro V6 once (was also offered a GMC Acadia that time). I had a Buick Regal once (that was definitely a D booking not F). And a Prius, if that counts (I booked part of that rental with points as F and booking the Prius directly would have been a lot more points, so I count it as a good upgrade because it was a long drive, saved a bunch on gas!) Had RAV4 once. What else? Not too much. But I've fairly often gotten F if I book C or D, or C if I book B, etc.

A lot of my rentals are from the same place. There is turnover in staff sometimes but they do seem to care anyway. They don't have a big inventory of G or higher (G is not bookable there online though the small SUV is). But they seem to try to get me into some of the nicer F cars when I book F.

I'm pretty happy. These are almost all weekend or weekly rentals, pretty cheap. I don't spend a lot overall in 10 rentals a year, maybe $1500? The service is pretty good and pricing has been good.

It's not good for a lot though. It's good for 10% points bonus if you earn Hertz points. For upgrades, I think it might be good for a little something when booking lower classes, but I don't think that would necessarily hold true at really large locations. Booking F and expecting G is not a good idea as a 5* or apparently even as a PC.

I book on the AMEX PLAT code, which, as described by AMEX, gives me an upgrade when available. Apparently Hertz/AMEX normalized this recently as Hertz 5-star status. In ATL this weekend, they have a huge inventory - the clerk said I'm 5-star, and though I had reserved a full size car, I was not eligible for an upgrade as 5-star status does not allow for upgrades into premium.

In RNO several times this past fall I was upgraded from F to premium - I wonder if this is not going to happen any longer.

No its not worth it.

As of a week or so ago, this does appear to be the case. See http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hertz...ting-news.html

I rent often from Hertz because of price and the AMEX 4 hour grace period. I spent a couple years as 5*, now a couple years as President's Circle. I haven't felt as a PC that I have noticed any consistent real difference over 5*. Well, maybe on 40 rentals last year the two weekend upgrades I got to a Mercedes-- one a sedan the other time an SUV-- is that about the PC advantage? About a 5% upgrade rate to an eye popping luxury vehicle?

Avis President's Club seems to be more consistent with some good upgrades versus PC. I rented a full size car last year for a month from Avis as President's Club and they upgraded me to a Cadillac for the four weeks which was some serious cost savings.

I just got Hertz 5*. When I looked in the FLL 5* Parking lot, I was looking at the 5* cars, they we're all regular cars, no upgrades. Is this normal for 5*?
I use the Chase Sapphire Reserve Visa Infinite Card.
