Non owner auto insurance
Hi,
I'm renting a car for my business travel every week and want to have liability. I called several places and a lot seem to want me to have a personal auto insurance before they can give me the non owner policy.
Is there any harm having several insurance policies run a check on me? I was told these are not hard inquiries and some are auto credit checks and not the same as my regular credit report which I think I saw on Credit Karma.
I live in NY but travel to NJ during the weekdays. I called up AAA and was quoted $716 for 6 months at 100/300/100 for person/property and 25/50 for UIM. That's kind of steep for a non owner even if I'm in NYC. I think I called The Travelers last year and was quoted over $800.
Is there anyone else here from NYC who has a non owner policy? If so how much are you paying? I only had one accident but that was 10 years ago which doesn't seem to be a factor. I took a defensive driving class within the last two years. What else is a factor and anything I can do to decrease the amount?
Thanks.

There are several threads covering non-owner insurance, e.g. Carless New Yorker needs car insurance for rentals only

Yes, but I think that those threads deal primarily (if not exclusively) with non-owned auto policies needed for personal rentals. The OP is looking for a non-owned policy to cover business rentals.
