I would disagree with pinniped's assessment on Hertz recent rental observations. Personally, my experiences different greatly with Hertz Ultimate Choice rentals as a President Circle member. With the implementation of Ultimate Choice at many airports, Hertz indeed has improved vastly compared to my previous experiences a few years ago being a President Circle member.

Recently, when comparing rates between Hertz and National at the airport locations where I have rented, the Hertz rates are almost always lower. I would simply walk to the President Circle section, and have had my choice of Mercedez, Infinitis, Mustang, etc. without having to pay the extra upgrade fee. Not sure if I would experience much better than that at the Emerald Aisle.

As I have stated, my opinion used to be that renting from National often proved to be the best experience with quality cars and ease of transaction in the emerald aisle. However, I have to say that I now really have no reason to look elsewhere from Hertz, as I get quality cars, very seamless rental transactions, and as a bonus, I earn a ton of United miles for each rental.
