So lets say I get to a station that gives me little to no love, and they try and give me a sentra as a full sized and refuse to budge on it, can I tell them right there to stick it and go grab something from another rental without being forced to pay anything for my reservation? Has anyone done this before?

As long as the reservation isn't prepaid and isn't "guaranteed" (Hertz-speak for special equipment: luxury, SUV, mini-van, etc.), there is not a No-Show fee. So if you walked away, it would be like you never showed up.

As long as the booking has no cancellation fees, which generally postpaid rates do not, then you do not have to take it

If they are giving you a car which is the category that you reserved, then I do not see what the issue is though. If it is a lower category , then I would be wanting the correct category or a reduction in rate if they are out of the correct category

Even on a prepaid rate, if they are unable to meet the reserved category, I would expect to be able to cancel given that they are not providing what was paid for

I would suggest making sure the other agencies have a car first.
