Pay at location
I have been quoted $550 to rent a Challenger RT for 4 days to drive down the PCH. The prepay cost is double the pay at location cost of $550! Is it likely that there will be extra fees to pay, or will it just be the $550? I won't get charged a cost similar to the prepay cost (eg. double) will i?
Thanks |

Hmmmm... If i go to Hertz.co.uk it tells me £609 ($1,000), if i go to Hertz.com it tells me £320 ($530). What's going on there?
They both look exactly the same on the confirm screen, and both include the following: Total Approximate Charge includes Airport Concession Fee Recovery On Flight Arrivals Loss Damage Waiver Tax and other charges Liability Insurance Supplement Vehicle Licensing Cost Recovery TRANSPORTATION AND FACILITIES FEE California Tourism Commission Assessment I don't understand why it's giving wildly different prices? Can anyone help? |

Double the price is a little rude though isn't it?
Is some of it to do with CDW being included with the UK version? (not that it says that anywhere i can see, that's just what i've heard happens from the UK site). |

I have booked Three cars through Hertz.co.uk for use in the USA at the end of July, the prices I have paid are fully inclusive of the following Airport concession fee recovery Loss Damage Waiver Tax and other charges Liability Insurance Supplement Customer Facility Charge: Rental Surcharge Vehicle Licensing Cost Recovery Energy Surcharge Even with the above costs, it was still far cheaper than renting from a USA site - :) |
don't want to start new topic but I have similar question. My parents just made a booking with Hertz from Uk website for one way rental LAX - SLC for 18 days.
Price it came up to - 901USD which is roughly what they expected. But few things are not as I'd expect a) pay at location price was cheaper than pay online (like people above) b) it didn't ask for any credit card details, just gave confirmation number and thats it. It always asked me before but then again I was always paying online (as it was cheaper) c) I cannot find any insurance details, if below are quoted on the rate: Loss Damage Waiver Tax and other charges Liability Insurance Supplement does this mean they are not liable for ANY charge in case of accident? thanks |

There should be nothing to pay at all, if there is a mishap etc, The LDW covers the third party bit, The LIS (Liability Insurance Supplement) covers the excess and costs etc

yeah I've seen that but still it's not clear - is LDW reducing liability to $0 in all cases?
Yes, LDW in the U.S. almost universally covers the full value of the vehicle with no deductible. I've actually never seen it not cover the full value with no deductible. Note that if LDW is not accepted (either in the all-inclusive rate or paid at the counter on a retail rate), the person renting is typically 100% responsible for any and all damage, up to the full value of the vehicle. (Yes, I've seen people making monthly payments on a totaled vehicle they will never see again.) LIS (aka SLI or ALI at some other agencies) provides $1 million in third-party coverage (i.e. you hit someone else; LIS pays them up to $1m for their property damage, bodily injury, and other costs they may attempt to extract from you due to your actions). Be sure to bring a print-out of this to ensure you are covered and in case the agency tries to sell you the same coverages at a cost. And yes, U.S. rental agencies rarely require credit card information for rentals that are not prepaid. |
whoops yes I did get it the wrong way round, I knew what I wanted to type, but my fingers didn't LOL !!! anyway all bases are covered !!

Actually, holodoc has it backwards.

Where does CDW fit into this? and does anyone know whether if booking from a European site (even for US rental) that we get it as standard?
This relieves you of financial responsibility for a rental vehicle damaged by an accident, vandalism or theft. LIS (liability insurance supplement) This provides excess liability coverage up to $1 million if you have both you are fully covered. If booking through UK sites it is normally included, hertz uk do include this see my example from Hertz UK site |

Many European-based sites offer all-inclusive rate packages for U.S. rentals that include CDW/LDW/PDW/DW and SLI/ALI/LIS/SLP. You just need to read the terms and conditions of the booking to tell. Most of the U.S. agencies' UK-based sites allow you to book all-inclusive rates, either prepaid or paid at the counter (http://www.dollar.co.uk, http://prepaid.thrifty.co.uk, etc.). |
