Hertz 2011 Fleet

Is there any place that stores what cars Hertz keeps in it's fleet for all the regular classes?

Economy, Intermediate, Full?

Been there, done that... need to see what the "or similar" consists of.

Impossible to list!!!!!

CrazyOne Apr 1, 2011 1:36 pm

It's not really practical to attempt that. There's no official list of the "or similar" cars and there's a fairly wide range of models that they ultimately actually buy. Even the same make and model car in the same class can have varying levels of equipment. And the benchmark cars they use in the listings are sometimes not updated frequently.

For that matter, it occurs to me those listings might be traded for better deals on the cars. I don't know if anyone knows this for certain or knows for certain it doesn't happen, but it seems possible.

Imagine every conceivable substitution: Ford Fusion/Hyundai Sonata for Chevy Malibu. Now try some inconceivable substitutions, like Chevy HHR or Toyota Matrix for Chevy Malibu. Given that the fleet guide routinely lists models that have been out of production for a year or more, the 'or similar' language gets interpreted very, very broadly. (If one is really particular about the make and model of car to be rented, the Prestige Collection is the way to go.)

The Avis and National forums have such lists, why can't the Hertz forum do the same?

Because nobody's volunteered to curate the lists of cars and their availability at Hertz locations.

Dollar Thrifty was required as a part of their supplier agreement with DaimlerChrysler to show Chrysler cars on their site as part of the agreement, even when some locations weren't even carrying Chryslers at all. That has since been relaxed, and Dollar Thrifty locations are now free to show cars more representative of the actual stock they carry. Dodge, Chrysler, and Jeep still comprise a good portion of the fleet, but you're starting to see many more Fords and GM products in the mix now and even some Japanese and Korean cars--and the same is happening with the other major rental agencies. It's impossible to list them all (especially in real-time, since cars come and go constantly!), so the best you'll get are what's sorta kinda representative of vehicles in that car class.

I'm glad I found this forum because I was wondering the same thing about hertz fleet. I rented a Mercedes from them last year.

I have a question myself, I plan on renting a SUV from hertz when my friend comes to visit and he lands at laguardia so I will rent from that location. getting to my question when I get there and I see what SUV's are on the lot can I ask them for that specific vehicle because I really don't want to get stuck with the xterra.

I remember back when the slogan was Hertz "rents Fords & other fine cars".

You can always call them in advance and ask that location what vehicles they rent for the SUV class. They may not be able to promise you which one you get but at least you have an idea of what the choices are before you go.
