I just wanted to say thanks to you guys here on FT! I just came back from one week Waikiki and Ka'anapali and I must say the quality of information I got from you guys exceeded by far any travel guide or other website I found.

We went for The House with no Key on Friday night and they had the best drinks I had during the stay. Great sunset view, the only caveat was that I tried to time it with the fireworks from the Hilton at 8pm, but you couldn't see it from their outside seating area, because some buildings were in the way.

So, I hope you can tell that we had a great time and you guys helped a lot with my preparations and made things even better. Mahalo!

OK, Like Mary2e said, I saw myself in here. :D

Glad you enjoyed H w/o a K.
You should have PM'ed, as I'm always looking for any excuse to go there, drink their Mai Tais (yes, Virginia, they are the best drink in the Islands ) and watch Kanoe Miller dance the hula. She is a goddess of ancient Hawaii that still walks among us.

Sorry, I could have told you about the fireworks :(.
The way Waikiki is shaped, the Halekulani is on the other side of a bend in the shoreline, so in order to see the fireworks from the HHV on Friday night (on the closest 1/2 hour past sunset, iirc), you need to walk toward Ft DeRussy or at least to the stone pier by the Outrigger. The thing to do is to get your last drink (and the check) right before sunset, and then leave the Halekulani NLT 10 minutes past sunset*. Turn left on leaving the hotel, walk toward Ft. DeRussy, and cut back toward the water once you hit it. Once at the waterline, walk toward HHV, but take your time and don't worry, you can see the fireworks from anywhere along that part of the shoreline.

* FWIW, I'd rather stay and watch Kanoe dance and listen to the band play (they've been there their entire lives) rather than rush off to watch a poor 4th of July knock-off. But that's just me.

North Shore was a bit disappointing because we came the wrong time of the year and the waves were nothing like what you see in movies and documentaries. I guess we need to come back in the winter time.

So find a good fare and come back in the winter. :D
Wintertime here has monster waves, rain showers, rainbows, whales, dolphins, turtles, you name it.
What are you waiting for? :)
