two questions!
1. I need to buy tickets to fly from the Big Island to Kauai, and I'm not finding any nonstop flights -- but instead, everything either connects through OGG or HNL. Given the flight times are roughly similar, which would you choose to connect through?
thanks!

I apologize if this has been covered. Please point me to the right spot as I wasn't able to turn up the answer with a search.
At the end of a work assignment, I'll be taking a long weekend on Molokai. At the end of that, my travel agent currently has me booked on MW1749 (9/28, MKK-HNL, 6PM-6:35PM) connecting to UA14 leaving at 8:10P. Never having flown with Mokulele before, I'm not clear if they can interline my bags or not. I'm also not clear if there is a secure side transfer to my United gate.
Pushing a bit further, my friend has a United flight at 7:35P that evening. Will an hour be enough for her to make her connection?
Thanks,
Scott

Minimum Connection Time in HNL [int'l to dom, separate tix]
Seeking opinions on the minimum connection time required to go from JQ3 (SYD-HNL) and a mainland flight with either AA or AS
Based on the flights I want there is 105-110 minutes between flights
I flew into HNL last month and the flight was 10 minutes early and if I recall correctly it only took 15 minutes to clear immigration
Have looked at 3-6 month averages and it seems JQ3 arrives early or on time almost 90% of the time
Will be flying Business (StarClass) and have hand luggage only
The only thing I dislike about HNL is the flights are all stacked early in the morning, then the next lot of mainland flights are in the afternoon, and night (all red-eyes)...
I would rather get all flying done in one hit than staying in Waikiki for the night and losing the next full day due to flying. Plus I have several nights in Waikiki on the way back so no need to stay on the way over as well...
Thoughts??? (keeping in mind, no check in luggage, but separate PNR's)

The separate PNR's are the problem. If you are on one PNR, the MCT affects your ability to book flights, but you are guaranteed a later flight (at some point) if the connection fails. On separate PNR's, you're on your own.

I am starting to think the safest bet may be to book a higher fare bucket for the HNL to Mainland flight, that is fully refundable, and if things start to look like they are going pair shaped on the day get online quickly and change the flights... yes, that also comes with some risks.

Too short of a connection time?
Hi, everybody!
I'm flying from LIH to ITO with either a 39 minute connection or an hour and 25 minute connection in HNL with Hawaiian Airlines.
Would the 39 minute connection be too short of a turnaround? Or, should I stay safe and take the hour and a half connection?
Thanks!

Sounds like all interisland terminal. The gates are all close to each other and if all on the same carrier, your walk may top out at 5 minutes to the other gate.

Please note that misconnects in HNL inter island are rare.

International to Mainland
Hello, I just came across this forum and am hoping to get a speedy response. I've tried looking through the original posts but can't seem to figure out an answer. Please help!
I am flying from Mildura, Australia to Seattle, Washington tomorrow. I've purchased two seperate tickets. My first ticket is Mildura to Honolulu via Quantas and Jetstar. I have a 2 hour layover, then fly a Alaska Airlines FROM honolulu to Seattle. What I am wondering is, Since I am changing itinerary, will I need to leave the secure area once I land in Honolulu, pick up my bags from baggage claim, go to ALASKA air and check in and recheck my baggage and then get through customs and security on top of that..or can I ask Quantas at check in in Mildura to check my bags all the way through to Seattle? I was told 2 hours would be sufficient time to get through customs, recheck baggage, get through security and get to my mainland flight. A bit nervous though. Sorry for being all over the place just need some guidance. Thanks a bunch

You will have to pick up your bags and re-check them, and you will need to go through security again.
