Bonfires on the Beach?
 

Wondering if anyone can provide a definitive answer as to whether or not bonfires are allowed on any beaches in Kauai? A search on "bonfire" doesn't seem to pull up any threads.

Seems they are definitely illegal; and I do recall the incident of the toddler who was badly burned after stumbling into a fire-pit that was covered with sand but certainly not extinguished from the previous evening. He was very badly burned. Many beach parks have above-ground BBQ/fireboxes that may serve your purpose.

Jay71 and kaukau, on our final night on Kauai we visited the State Park beach near Wailua and there was a small bonfire on the beach, right next to the parking area.

Based on your information kaukau, it's not surprising that such fires are banned. Mahalo.

We often have bonfires in front of the house on Sunset Beach (Oahu), and I have always worried about the residual coals. We set up a bucket brigade and dump a LOT of buckets of water on the fire (as in 20-30), then we bury it only once there is no more steam rising. Then we encircle it in old broken surfboards that we reserve just for that reason.

I will never tell :cool:;). Had no idea they were illegal; the owners of the house light them all the time, and there is usually at least one going every night within a mile of the home... on NYE we can usually see at least 6 burning within a quarter mile!

At least this revelation makes it easier to stomach the fact that we will not be there for the holidays this year... After so many years, we are taking one year off to appease my daughter.
