8 days is a long time... would a split stay be out of the question?

I've already got the first 5 nights booked at the Moana Surfrider. So we were looking for something out of the city the last 3 nights.

You should be splitting the stay with a visit to another island, not another O'ahu hotel.

You've made a great choice. Sit on the front porch in the rocking chairs and watch the world go by. Great place to meet up with folks or wait while the other half is still upstairs getting ready for dinner or out shopping. One of my favorite memories of this hotel. ^
From what I read elsewhere, he has an 8 day Priceline rental car reserved, so moving to another island is probably not an option. That said, leaving Honolulu for the last three days is definitely a good idea. I've stayed on Kauai for a month at a time and it wasn't long enough, so I'd be surprised if there isn't enough on Oahu to keep someone busy for 8 days. I'll leave it to others to recommend where to stay. As for leaving Honolulu for the last 3 days we did want to change up the pace without the hassle and time required when doing the whole interisland flight thing. While the actual flights are painless...it's the whole process before and after (especially on island time) that ends up wasting a good part of the day. |
The North Shore of Oahu is so different, you could easily believe you were on another island. There is wild, open, endless feel to it. In the winter the stars seem close enough to touch.
We've split time at the Moana and Turtle Bay and enjoyed the total experience. We have returned to each. Our best experiece at Turtle Bay was a room with a deep ocean view and lanai. Different choices at the Moana each time we stayed--once an amazing view of Diamond Head, once overlooking the veranda where the night music drifted into the room, even with closed window. I liked that. I'm sure Ihilani would be nice also, but given a choice, my husband would go for Turtle Bay again. |

Rooms are small in the historical section--did you get a closet? :p
Not to add salt...but wasn't it an *upgrade* to resort? I overheard a woman say she got the hotel on PL for $75--rolled my eyes since we payed considerably more with *wood. My first intro to PL. (7 years ago as point of reference, iirc). |
