Help on Honolulu + Oahu needed!!!

Hi there. Me and my other half are heading from London over to Hawaii for ten days. We arrive in and are currently booked at the W for 4 nights before heading to Lihue. I have read a few pretty bad reviews on the W- I have used in NY, LA and Mexico City and they have always been pretty good. Any ideas on a great hotel to stay after the 18hr flight from London would be very welcome. Also, we are then returning for the last three days to Oahu and heading out of Honolulu. Is there anywhere in particular that anyonew would really recommend to stay at. Any help/advice would be very welcome.
Thanks!

If you check the Starwood forum, you can find a few reviews on the W. As I recall, the latest ones are positive.

Personally, I like the Hilton although lots of other FTers don't.

There are a lot of Honolulu hotels reviewed here:

Also, I'm not sure of the time that you're traveling, but you should be aware of construction in some parts of Waikiki. Some people have reported no trouble, but others have been annoyed by noise and construction traffic in that area.

Depends on your budget

If you're going to be in HNL you might as well stay in the area of Waikiki that's within walking distance of everything. The W's pretty close to that area, and a very nice walk along a beach path will take you to central Waikiki Beach. Hotel rates in HNL range widely and I'd need to know more about your budget to recommend something other than the W. As far as construction goes, it's mainly in the corner of Kalakaua and Lewers and down Lewers to the ocean, so stay away from Lewers and you'll be fine.

HR Waikiki is a great Hotel - good location away from the construction noise. Get a Regency Club Diamondhead Tower beach view room & you'll be very happy!

We have stayed at the Sheraton Waikiki, the Royal Hawaiin and the Hyatt. I think the Hyatt staying on the Regency Club floor is the best. Wonderful staff and great location.
