Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel--specific question
 

I did a search, but couldn't find this addressed:

Does anyone have any feedback on how formal the Hapuna Beach Prince is? In Frommer's it says you wouldn't be comfortable walking through the lobby in t-shirts and sandals. That strikes me as a bit odd, and I haven't seen any reference to that issue here on FlyerTalk. Any feedback on this would be very welcome! Thanks in advance...

As a guest, you should not have any problems. I never did and I would eat lunch in their restaurant too. Yesterday I was at the sister Maui Prince in Maui for cocktails. They took my $8 for a weak v-martini without sneering at my t-shirt. They serve the same thing at the nearby $$$$ Grand Wailia for 2 dolla more. I suggest you dont wear a t-shirt with F*CK YOU on it though.

A Hawaiian shirt, shorts and sandals is the normal attire anywhere in HI. You are 2/3 the way to TOTALLY normal dress.

I was at Hapuna a few month back and am happy to answer any Questions.

My family and I have stayed at Hapuna five times over the past couple of years. It is a very casual place. Shorts and tee shirt in the lobby are common, as are sandals. I have also seen others in swim suits with towels and no shoes or just flip flops. You won't get a second look with a tee shirt or sandals in the lobby. The last time we ate in the Coast Grill at Hapuna I bet half the people in the restaurant had some form of sandals on.

That said, Hapuna's sister hotel, Mauna Kea, is more formal. In fact, we don't stay there for just that reason. The crowd at Mauna Kea is generally a bit older and more formal. I don't think I would show up at any restaurant at Mauna Kea with sandals on.
