How's the cell phone coverage out there?
:) Good question. I don't know. There is some traffic though so in the event of a breakdown, you wouldn't be waiting long for someone to come by and relay a message. Also there are some homes along the way and a church, so you're really not that isolated.

Hello folks. I know it's been answered once but I am thick and need to hear it again.

I have always, always, always been told that the drive around Maui is not doable, that you will get stuck, that your rental company will charge you a boat load for doing it.

Now I read in Maui Revealed (and here) that not only is it doable, but that you don't even need a four wheel drive vehicle; a regular old car would be just fine.

Is this the case?

Read my post #11. If you're uncertain, ask at the ranger station at Oheo Gulch. It's a piece of cake - much better than backtracking. I usually stay at Huelo Point and still prefer to take that route because it's such a time saver and you don't have as much congestion.

And don't forget, there are many tour services that will pick you up at your hotel and drive you to and from Hana. You can sit back and enjoy the scenery and let them deal with the drive. You can arrange this service at any hotel you are staying in.

Any coupons available for this? We leave tomorrow.
TIA

Has anyone used the 50% off tickets?

I purchased the AoA card and found the 50% off ticket site. Has anyone used those and how was the reservation process? Did you take it on faith and buy the ticket first then make the reservations? Or vice-versa? If you made the reservations 1st, did you get any grief when you showed up with the 50% off tickets?

Thanks!
