Fruit
 

Will be in Maui next week and was curious where is the best place to buy fruit. Really hoping that tropical fruit (mango, papaya, sugarcane, etc) is of great quality and better than what I can get here.

Any suggestions, or is the grocery store the best bet?

My impression from several visits to ordinary grocery stores is that the locally grown fruit is very fresh, since it is grown within a few miles of the store in many cases. The only exception I found was coconut -- we couldn't find any fresh coconut in Kahala (east of Honolulu).

I suggest the nearest regular grocery store. Perhaps some Hawaii locals will chime in on this question.

If you do much driving, you should find road-side stands where people sell the produce they've grown. Just leave the money and take some produce.

There are also some farmer's markets. There's one on Wednesdays from 10 - 2 at at the Kahului Shopping Center. There's another on Fridays at the Center Stage at the Ka'ahumanu Center. There are several in Kihei too. On Mon., Wed & Friday mornings there's one in the Hawaiian Moons Store parking lot and same days in the afternoons there's one on Kihei Road by Suda Store. And on Saturdays there's one from 8-noon at Long's on N. Kihei Road.
