Any Hotel recommendations for the Big Island?

It would be helpful if you gave us some parameters - price range (w/ season), proximity requirements (beach, volcano),
night life requirements, do you golf, etc.

Agreed.

yanks23, I would first try a search for this forum (by going to the upper right of your screen) and using search words like Hawaii.

If you don't mind Starwood, Marriott, Hilton etc. you could go to the Flyertalk forums that cover these hotels on Flyertalk and do a search there. You will find these hotels described ad nauseum almost.

Without a doubt: Four Seasons Hualalai.

I second the Hilton Waikaloa Village - especially if you can get in on it with a 100,000 point ALON award from HHonors. (Award goes up 75% if not redeemed by June 1, although the stay itself can be made up to one year after the certificat redemption.)

I don't know what rates you will get, whether it is a good value for a paid stay, or what resorts can be had via Priceline. All I know is that HWV was well worth 100,000 HHonors points.

Hilton is way tooooo Disney. It's huge, many families, noisy. Totally reminds me of Orlando. It's good to visit there for the dolphins, but not to stay.

There are about 6 hotels that would be better: Four Seasons, Hapuna Beach, Mauna Kea, Mauna Lani, Kona Village, the Orchid at Mauna Lani......the best bang for buck being the Hapuna Beach Prince thru Priceline. This is a FIRST RATE hotel that shares facilities with it's sister property next door--the Mauna Kea, which has the best beach on the Big Island and also first class amenities.
