Does anyone commute between islands everyday for work?

Just curious!

Lots of people do, some for work, some for medical appointments, some to visit family. Lots of reasons to commute between the islands. I don't every day but do about 2-5 times a month for work.

Yeah, I knew somebody years ago who was doing a daily (or near-daily) commute from Hilo to an office in Honolulu, and I'm sure there are still a handful of people doing that sort of thing, but much more common to be based on one island and make frequent day trips to cover job responsibilities on one or more other islands. That happens across a wide range of jobs, most commonly based on Oahu and going to one or more neighbor islands.

Ah alright! Thank you everyone for the insight!

Not every day, but multiple times a week when I'm in the state, yes!

Some may remember the commuter pass (and later Travel Plan) offerings from Aloha and Hawaiian that either offered unlimited neighbor island travel or a fixed amount of segments during a 12 month period. It was offered in acknowledgement of the large number of residents who need to commuted between the islands.

I worked with someone in Honolulu who lived on the Big Island. He would normally commute to Honolulu each week and maybe send a few nights at a crash pad rather than fly every day. But, I am sure there are those who do.

Oh wow! Do you go back and forth between an island every day? You must fly on a lot of 717's

The views everyday would be incredible + the plane spotting!

My father did this for about a year in 2000-2001 (pre-9/11), commuting from Hilo to Honolulu. He'd buy a monthly pass from Hawaiian, and I remember going in with him at least once to the city ticket office in Hilo with his work schedule for the month and booking the flights. Buy the pass twice in a year and you earned Pualani Platinum status, so he was upgraded on a lot of those flights. This was also prior to smartphone boarding passes; in Hilo they'd have is boarding pass printed and waiting for him at the first class check in counter. On the way home he could check in the Premier Club lounge (where the Plumeria Lounge is today; the current HNL Premier Club back then was Aloha's lounge), since at the time boarding passes weren't required to pass through the security checkpoint. His overall commute time was less than a lot of people have in places like Los Angeles, and he wasn't stuck driving in traffic.

Similar for my father from OGG five days a week post 9/11. Five days a week every week to HNL and back. He did it for at least two years, even misplaced his license for a month and TSA was so used to him they didn’t care.
