Consolidated "Getting to/from HNL and Waikiki" Thread (2018 Onward)

Does anyone have recent experience getting Lyft or Uber rides from
HNL airport? going next week would like to know what to expect.

Checked today on both Uber and Lyft websites, both say pickups and dropoffs are now ok.

A 3-month pilot program for Uber and Lyft pickups at HNL started on December 1.

Used Uber from HNL for first time the other day. Pickup from international terminal is at departure level on the median by UA/section 8.

Price for my XL trip to my home (roughly same distance to Waikiki) was quoted as as around $46, which was slightly less expensive than normal taxi I rate. When charge ge came through, I was shocked to get a charge of only $32! I did tip the driver $10 cash). Big plus was that the driver spoke a English, which is not frequent in the taxi ranks.

Only problem with ride was my fault: I was so jet lagged after 18 hours in the air, I forgot to use my Plat card’s &15 credit.

FYI, there is an Uber pickup point at the Inter-Island terminal as well.

The last time I checked Uber/Lyft were about 25% cheaper than a taxi. But depending on where you want to go it may be easier to take a taxi, for instance if you are going to Kailua.

Even better if over 65, $1.00 each way, $2 all day or $6/month with $10 ID every 4 years. I almost feel guilty.

Are there any updated info on options from HNL to Waikiki hotels, other than "The Bus".

Thanks in advance!

Uber and Lyft can both pick up at HNL. Originally it was only a three month trial but it has now been extended and I am sure it will evetually become permanent as it is working well.

”During the extension, there will continue to be two designated pickup areas on airport property. Both are located on the second level median curb. One pickup location is at the Interisland Terminal across from Lobby 2 and the other is located at the Overseas Terminal across from Lobby 8 (click here to view a map). Pick up locations are subject to relocation as construction at the airport proceeds.”

Charleys Taxi has a fixed price option that is competitive and a bit cheaper than a regular taxi fare. You have to reserve it in advance. Currently $29 to/from Waikiki.

Thanks for this tip, LIH Prem. We used Charley's Taxi to leave the island today! $29 to HNL! Worked like a charm! Safe travels!

Wrong. Uber & Lyft can both drop off & pickup at HNL.

We just booked our first trip to Oahu again after about eight years of trips to Kauai and BI. I think the last few times we just hopped on The Bus to take us from the airport to near a hotel, and I wonder if this is still feasible (luggage restrictions etc). Otherwise, what are the cheap alternatives - e.g. is there Uber and how much would that cost?

You can get an estimate on Uber's web site: https://www.uber.com/fare-estimate/

HNL to Hyatt Regency Waikiki currently shows $40.33 on UberX.

The rule is luggage size is limited to a std air carryon. This plus a small backpack is about it. Some drivers allow more, but you can't count on it. Price is now $2.75 or $5.50 for all day, EXACT CHANGE. Still $1 if you are a senior; $2 all day.
