Big Island After Heavy Rains

We are thinking of booking a last minute trip to the big island for hiking and the beach. It look like April has been a record month in terms of rain, so we were wondering if anyone knows how the island is like after heavy rain. Does it take time for the trails to recover? Otherwise beyond the current forecast does anyone know a site we can check the actual conditions on the ground.

Are you going Hilo-side or Kona-side?
