First Time to Hawaii 9 days 8 on Ground

Hi, Im Caleb and plan on traveling to Hawaii in June of 2018. Me and a friend or 2 have never been and want to know whats suggested. we plan to stay at Hostiles while there. I really want to go to Maui but am open to suggestions. I like hiking and seeing scenery and just want to to get a good experience. Thanks for the suggestions in advance.

Hello Caleb and welcome to FT;
A couple of suggestions:
1. read the posts that are available. there is tons of information about each of the islands and all the things to do. then you can come back with specific questions. You are more likely to get help
2. if you share more information such as budget, interests (apart from hiking) - it would help to give you suggestions. 8 nights in Hawaii is plenty of time to see 2-3 islands but that can be pricey.

Welcome to FT.

Read a few guide books and then read a lot of posts on this forum. See: https://www.hawaiirevealed.com/ YOU need to make a plan first.

Have limited info on your request, however my number one must see in HI is the Arizona Memorial. Economical to access from Waikiki via TheBus. (more info on other postings) There is a hostel in Waikiki a block from the zoo and beach. Never stayed there, but met a man and his adult daughter who did and they had nothing negative to say. It is convenient to hiking to and up Diamond Head. Also hike up the coast on Kalakaua below DH past old historic houses, through the big park housing the Beach Cafe which has good kalua pork (https://barefootbeachcafe.wordpress.com/) , past a light house. You can continue on but we always turn back there. Lots to do on Oahu, Including Punchbowl, North Shore, but you can catch a one way flight to your other island of choice and depart from there. Aloha have fun!
