Looking for Opinions on these Maui Options...

Cash Stays:

1) Fairmont Kea Lani (Garden Suite)

2) Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villa

Points stay:

1) Marriott Wailea Resort

2) Hyatt Andaz

There are 5 of us so space is a priority. I can book a standard room at the Marriott (with Gold) but chances for an upgrade to a suite type of room is probably slim to none. I'm thinking the Fairmont is the best choice?

How long is your stay? Fairmont Kea Lani has 5th night free and it combines with Virtuoso amenities.

I'd want to make sure they will accept 5 guests in a room. How many are kids and what are their ages?

if it was my family i'd go Andaz..... but 5 in a room is a non-starter from previous experience unless you have an infant. Fairmont will give you a little more space no question. Very kid friendly at Fairmont

The Montage on Maui is very highly regarded here. And all the accomodations are multi-room suites with kitchens.

For five people, you'll need connecting rooms or a suitable suite.

I would go with Andaz or Four Seasons. Fairmont also sounds like a winner, as the above posters are very knowledgeable.

Montage is far superior to all of these, but probably far richer in cost also. I would try to rent a 2 or 3 bedroom through Luxury Retreats or Vrbo from an owner. The resort is fabulous.

I have stayed in all but the Fairmont. I prefer Wailea over Kaanapali so I would skip the Westin.

I loved the Andaz. The Marriott is nothing special at all, nice, but not special.

I prefer Four Seasons Wailea. I have had better weather in general on that side if the island. I also like the resort. But it's personal of course!

For multi rooms, luxury and a good beach, consider Montage Kapalua. (Virtuoso)

An excellent 4.5 star resort with multi rooms is the Napili Kai Beach Resort.

Since the OP is not asking about luxury hotels, I am moving this to the Hawaii forum where there may be better answers.

could look at private rental at either montage or andaz, could go through a local real estate company

i woudnt use agencies like Luxury Retreats, especially as Luxury Retreats was bought by airbnb

Opposite for me--found the Andaz "meh" but the Marriott surprisingly nice and with great staff.
