Honua Kai - does current construction affect lodging?

Hi! I've read that there's construction going on West of the Honua Kai, so some rental agents are reducing the rental rates. Is the construction that bad? We are pondering Feb 2016, and would like a nice condo with ocean view. But does the construction ruin the view or is there just severe noise and dust?

Also what comes first - plane rental or lodging rental? It's hard to know what to plan first since condo inventory can be so tricky!

I just stayed there this week. I was in the building adjacent but had a courtyard room (great ocean view) so there was zero effect. If I had a room facing the construction, I suppose my view wouldnt be so nice and maybe some noise.

The only affect I had was that sometimes driving out the main gate, I got stuck behind a construction vehicle for a minute or two.

Construction is SOUTH of Honua Kai --- west is the ocean. Check out the satellite view on Google Maps, and compare that with the Honua Kai map of any condo that you are considering.

As for what to arrange first ----- if you are at all flexible on dates, check out current airline rates for your proposed dates, searching significantly on either side, to get a handle on best time to fly for the least money. Keep in mind the President's Day holiday, which generally causes full planes and high fares around that long weekend.

With that knowledge in hand, book your room. Book your flight when you can get the best rate ---- and that probably isn't 11 months out. If you have no tolerance for risk, book your flights now. Otherwise, set fare alerts on search engines like Kayak and watch for fares you can stomach.

Thanks! The google earth view is a great idea.
Regarding fares, it seems that RT are cheaper than 2 one-ways. But I did suspect full flights around presidents holiday, and I fear you're confirming that concept. I definitely have low risk tolerance for a holiday we do less than once-a-year, so I'll probably pay current fares sooner than to hope for a cheaper fare later. Ditto on the booking - who knows when someone will book what my wife wanted :-)

Alas Honua Kai closed their kids club after our previous stay so now my wife may want to go elsewhere. So that's new trip research for her... And no idea if she'll select something other than Honua Kai.

So new question - how fast do F seats in ha / ua sell out? We are sfo based and there's limited inventory of seats for the nonstop OGG flight. I dislike connections and prefer nonstop even when it costs more than connecting. But I can't book until my wife does her travel research...

I own a three bedroom in Honua Kai that overlooks the construction site. Right now, Westin is moving dirt around to get ready for cranes on site in April. Unfortunately there isn't a broader time table out there anywhere, just that Westin wants to open the resort (Westin Nanea) in 2017.

Hi, any feedback on current noise levels on Honua Kai?

is it noisy when one is trying to relax on the pool or beach?

Thanks

The Hokulani building will block noise poolside. If you are on the south end of the beach, you may hear some construction, but we haven't received any complaints from our renters. Starwood has been moving fast - this video is from Jan 17 and will give you an idea of how much is done

At Honua Kai now - there is construction on South side of Hokulani tower but it's not very loud or noticeable. By the pool, the construction isn't loud compared to my child and his fellow young people. :-)
And Honua Kai is nice as ever... But has new competition from Hyatt residence club (killer pool!!) and other new budding construction projects.
