Nightly Budget?

Can we assume you will have 3 nights? Is there a maximum nightly budget?
The fairly new Koa Kea Hotel would be my choice.
Close to shops , restaurants , beach..... South shore Poipu...can't beat it.

Non Invasive Rennovation

The rennovation starting in April is supposedly "non invasive". They are upgrading the rooms and going wing by wing. There will be no guests in the area of rennovations. They are not rennovating the public spaces.

I am returning to the Grand Hyatt after an awesome Honeymoon a few years back. The Grand Hyatt is absolutely amazing. The grounds and pools are just breath taking. A true gem.

Best the resort never feels crowded. Its spread out on 50 acres so you will always have space and privacy should that be your desire.

You cannot miss with the Grand Hyatt.

My wife and I love the Grand Hyatt. We've visited yearly for the last 5 years. I agree that the renovations in April shouldn't be disruptive to guests.

the Hyatt Poipu is amazing. Home to 3 great stays!

Grand Hyatt Kauai is an amazing property and they certainly treat Goldpassport Diamonds well!

I'd either stay at Grand Hyatt or at St. Regis.

Kauai is amazing. Take a nice slow pace and enjoy it.

I definitely 100% recommend taking Capt. Andy's and going out to the Napoli Coast. We usually do the evening trip that lasts around 4-5 hours and includes a buffet style pulled chicken, salad, bread, and sneaky tikis to drink.

There are plenty of waterfalls to see.

Waimea Canyon

A car rental is a must!

Good luck and enjoy your trip!

You probably want to look at http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyatt...er-thread.html

There are really no other big resort hotels in the Poipu area that match the quality of the Hyatt. There is a Marriott in Lihue and the Sheraton Poipu, but they are a step below. The only other luxury property, and it's pretty expensive, is a boutique hotel, the Koa Kea.

Interestingly, the Koa Kea is currently $299 per night and the Hyatt is $340

If you want quiet, very quiet (probably no kids), go for it. The Hyatt has huge, beautiful grounds, big pools, a waterslide, etc.

The Hyatt is awesome and you can't go wrong there. Personally, I like the Marriott...especially for 3 days... one day you go clockwise around the island as far as you can go, the next day counter clock wise and the 3rd day at their really great beach and pool. Dinner at Duke's w/o needing to drive is a major plus.

Splitting stay in north and south Kauai

Hello-

I got one of those "invitations" for Westin Princeville (5 nights + car) but would like to extend our stay on the island in Poipu. How long do you think I should stay in Poipu after 5 nights in Princeville? I'm thinking anywhere between 2 to 5 nights...

We'll also be traveling with 2 toddlers so the move is a big deal. I just want to feel relaxed enough after the move and before our flight home.

Thanks!

Jon Maiman May 26, 2010 12:58 pm

On many of our trips to Hawaii, ncluding two to Kauai, we have split our stay between different parts of the same island. We have a how four year old toddler and for us anything less than 4 nights in one location isn't worth it. Even when it was just the two of us, 4 nights was typically the minimum to enjoy an area.

It always takes a day to get settled into the new place. Give yourself two more days to actually enjoy the new area (Poipu in your case) and then one final day to prepare for the trip home. If you can swing it, I would do another 5 days in Poipu. There is plenty to do on Kauai to keep your family entertained for 10+ days.

Grand Hyatt Poipu

My advice would be to do a 4 or 5 night stay at the Grand Hyatt down in Poipu. There really is not a resort property in Poipu that compares to the Hyatt.

Plus, they have a beach and man made salt water lagoon that is great for young ones.

There are some very good AAA rates (which include breakfast) on Hyatt.com. In addition, I would highly recommend paying for your stay at the Grand Hyatt Kauai with Hyatt Gift Checks at Costco. You can get $100 in Hyatt gift checks for just $79. Thus, you save an additional 20% on your room, food, spa, and any other room charges you incur during your stay.

The gift checks do not expire and are accepted at all Hyatt properties world wide including Hyatt Place and the new Hyatt brand Andaz.

Thus, between the great AAA rates plus the Hyatt Gift Checks from Costco you can stay at the Hyatt Kauai for close to what the Shertaon Kauai costs and the Hyatt truly is in a different class from the Sheraton. They do not compare.

Enjoy sunny Poipu!! Its very different from Princeville.

While not as visually beautiful as the Princeville, Poipu is much more beachy with lots more sunshine and warmer temperatures.

Thank you for the responses. We've been to Kauai before but have never moved in the middle of the trip. We definitely want to stay at the Hyatt since that's where we stayed last time and enjoyed it with our then 2 year old. Thanks for the tips on the costco certificates. I did see that costcotravel.com had a hyatt package for $935 per person for a five night stay that seemed like a good deal:

What do you guys think? I don't think I can earn points on that though. I guess I'll calculate how much it is with the AAA Breakfast deal plus 20% off with hyatt costco certificates.
I've also thought about just renting the Westin Princeville through redweek.com for 7 nights and 3 nights at the Hyatt to save money. I'm hoping to score a good rate for the Westin by renting through the timeshare owner. The bummer about the Westin is that there isn't a beach on site.

Kauai in November

Hi everyone,

My husband and I are considering a week long stay in Kauai in November (approx Nov 18-25). We're mainly looking to relax on the beach, do some hiking and find some chill bars in the evening. Would you recommend the north or south parts of the island for this time of the year and the activities we're looking for? I've read that the north side beaches can be quite rough during the winter months, but what about November?

Thanks!
Carrie
