"Semi-Escorted" Tour?
About 20 years ago, Mom and Dad went to Hawaii on a package tour. What they liked about it was all the details that were taken care of. I really don't know many details, but I think, for example, they just left their luggage in their hotel room in the morning, they had to be at the airport at a certain time, they were flown to the next island, and their luggage magically showed up.
I'd like to send them to Hawaii one last time (yes, they're THAT age and Dad's not all that healthy). I can get miles for the flights and hotel chits for the hotels. What can be done to take care of the rest? How can I make the rest of the trip as un-stressful for them as possible? |
Do you know a Travel Agent? They could give you some good ideas.
Where will they be flying from and which island(s) do they want to visit? Can you go with them & be their "porter" and "guide"? |
Don't know any travel agents. I've called American Express in the past, and they have not been very good at coming up with outside-the-box solutions.
I can't go, and I don't know Hawaii anyway. They will be flying from the east coast. I want to put them in business class, so probably from IAH (or maybe SFO) to HNL. I don't think they have a fixed idea of where they'd like to visit. I know mom doesn't walk so good, so that's a consideration. |
You might want to look into Tauck Tours. I've seen them at the nicer properties in Hawaii. I'm not sure if they take care of all the details, but since they are higher end, your parents may get the additional services they require.

A colleague and spouse just did a Hawaii cruise. This was a first time to Hawaii "bucket list" trip for them. It was fully escorted and planned off shore and on, to and from the mainland, meals, tours, etc. I think they used Norwegian. Anyway, they raved about it. Something we would never do, but if you want to be taken care of -- an option.

Our f irst trip to HI was in 1998 with Perillo Tours. It was an 11 day trip to three islands. I think that would be a bit much from what you say about your parents.
I would fly them to Oahu. I am taking my granddaughter the end of March. I have booked guided tours where we get picked up at our hotel for each thing we are doing: Polynesian Cultural Center; Arizona Memorial; parasailing; a taxi to our luau and the kahala hotel dolphin experience and a shuttle to the aloha stadium swapmeet. If you want them to go tothe PCC you can book, like I did, the Ambassador package which include a guided tour so they don't miss anything, excellent seats for the show there, and they have handicapped vehicles for those that need them (either wheelchairs or scooters). Dont' know if that's what you are looking for, but just to let you know, my husband was 72 when we first parasailed in HI so don't give up on the old folks, lol |
You can work with Roberts Hawaii and select from a menu of day tours/excursions that meet their interests and activity levels that will pick-up and drop off from their hotel. Roberts can also handle intra-Island flights, airport transfers, etc so you can supply the mainland-Island air and hotel bookings on your own and work with Roberts to fill in the gaps.
