So I'll take the bus to the memorial and rent a car from Waikiki for the day of driving. I'm starting to realize that 3 days is not enough time. I guess I'll just wet my appetite this trip for the next one and hopefully have a better idea of what to do next time.

Ouch, mostly bad reviews. Although I’m always suspicious of a few very good or very bad reviews, based on these, if I hadn’t been there, I wouldn’t go. But we have been there about 1/2 dozen time and will return. Our experience has been excellent Chinese and excellent service. In my opinion the name should be The Oriental Village. In January they usually have about a 8-10 (I forget the actual number) course lunch special for ten or more people for somewhere around $10 each. If you need help meeting the minimum number give me a PM. We did this lunch once and dinner group sharing with 6 or so dishes the other times. As for a seafood restaurant recommendation, sorry, we don’t do that much fine dining when in Hawaii. But, that said, Dukes might do the trick. If you have transportation, a fun and good place is the alleged last Tiki bar and restaurant, La Mariana. I recommend it highly: http://www.yelp.com/biz/la-mariana-s...-club-honolulu. Aloha, Ken

This place is less than two miles from your hotel. Good cheap food. Walk east on Kalakaua Avenue and go north on Kapahulu Ave. It will be on your right side. Parking is limited, so walking is good. Lots of small hole in the wall places to eat on Kapahulu Avenue. During lunch time if you see a large panel van that is selling food and it has a long line of people- chances are that the food is really good. Get a mixed plate if they offer it. A mixed plate has more than one choice of entree. Most places are five to eight dollars for lunch. There are numerous places to eat at Ala Moana Shopping Center and the surrounding area. The Ward Center shoppingcomplex has a lot of places too. Kakaako Kitchen and Goma Tei Ramen are great places to eat. Just depends on what kind food you are looking for. I would suggest getting a car rather than the moped. It is faster, safer and you have protection if it gets windy or starts to rain. Like it has been lately. Look in the local Sunday paper when you arrive for other places to eat in the Dining Out section. Might have some coupons or specials going on for the holiday season. This caters more towards the locals rather than the tourists. Another option to the surfing is trying out stand up paddleboarding. It is using a longer wider board and a single ended paddle. If you are going to Hanauma Bay, they are closed on Tuesdays. http://www.honolulu.gov/parks/facili...nformation.htm |
